ABOUT MOUNT ROGERS COMMUNITY SERVICES BOARD - CORNERSTONE
The Mount Rogers Community Services Board (CSB) is a state-run agency that provides a range of services for Virginia residents of Bland, Smyth, Wythe, Grayson, and Carroll Counties. Located in the center of the small town of Marion in southwestern Virginia, Cornerstone is a small, short-term crisis stabilization unit, offering sub-acute care for adults struggling with a mental health disorder, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, or a developmental disability.
Clients must enter voluntarily, and the services are not designed for those with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder. Cornerstone is one of seven treatment facilities in Virginia that are operated by the state government.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The maximum stay is 15 days, positioning Cornerstone among the 10.3 percent of rehabs in the state of Virginia that offer residential care lasting less than 30 days in a non-hospital setting.
Cornerstone aims to provide "creative, recovery based crisis stabilization services." In addition, by providing education and instilling self-awareness, hope, and self-determination, the facility works to effect lasting change in its residents' lives.
The treatment approach is multidisciplinary. The medical and physical component of addiction and mental illness is addressed through psychiatric care, nursing, and medications when appropriate. Meanwhile, clients' psychological and other needs are addressed through individual and group counseling and intensive case management services. For dually diagnosed clients, the mental health disorder and the substance use disorder are treated in an integrated fashion. And all clients work with staff to begin planning aftercare options during their stay.
Cornerstone's services are often used as a transitional step for those leaving hospital treatment; used in this way, the center's treatment can reduce hospital readmission rates.
The center is staffed 24/7 by a team that includes nurses and psychiatrists. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave Cornerstone five out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.
