ABOUT NEW LIFE USA
Located on 102 acres in Missouri’s Texas County, just outside Cabool, New Life USA offers long-term, work-based and faith-based treatment to adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Of Missouri’s 257 treatment facilities, only 28 (10.9 percent) offer residential care for more than 30 days; New Life’s program runs for more than a year.
According to a 2010 local newspaper feature, this program originated in Russia, opening its Missouri location in 2007. A second location in Nevada provides transitional support for residents following the first 12 months. Many clients are from Slavic backgrounds, and New Life USA communication is available in Russian.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Potential clients of New Life USA in Cabool, Mo., are asked to obtain a physical exam before entering the facility. Admission requires an initial phone interview, and residents must realize their addiction and desire recovery, according to the facility’s website.
New Life’s treatment program focuses on education, a supportive environment, and physical labor over psychotherapy. Residents also receive support for spiritual growth, through Bible-based education and required attendance at daily Christian services. Individual spiritual counseling is available.
Physical labor is the facility’s other core practice, accompanied by training in trade skills. Residents typically participate in farming and automotive servicing, and the common daily schedule includes up to 10 hours of work. New clients receive mentorship for two months from a senior peer. In Texas, 37.8 percent of facilities offer some form of employment counseling or training for clients.
This facility is staffed by volunteer ministers, according to the facility’s website. The sole individual polled by Rehabs.com to date awarded five out of five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
New Life USA can accommodate up to 80 total men and women in its Cabool, Mo., dormitories. The facility’s website indicates, at the time of this writing, that there are closer to 30 residents at one time.
The setting reflects the program’s focus on physical activity and practical work, where residents learn and build stonework, breed livestock, and tend bees, vegetable gardens, an orchard, and a green house. One particularly unique feature of the center is a Russian-style sauna, designed to help detoxify the body from drugs over long-term use. The site is non-smoking. Residents can expect to have no contact with family or friends during their first six months in treatment.
