ABOUT DAKOTA TREATMENT CENTER

Part of the nationwide medication-assisted addiction treatment network New Season (formerly Colonial Management Group), Dakota Treatment Center is an outpatient opioid clinic located in the southern Twin Cities town of Burnsville. The facility takes pride in its welcoming and inclusive environment, serving clients from surrounding communities in Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Woodbury, Edina, and Lakeville. Elsewhere in Minnesota is the Rochester Metro New Season clinic. Other locations include Pensacola, Fla.; Bountiful, Utah; and Dallas County, Texas.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To begin treatment at Dakota Treatment Center, clients must arrange for an appointment and have been addicted to opiods for at least one year. The center recommends that individuals plan for a day off from work while getting stabilized on their first medication-assisted treatment. The initial appointment includes a medical examination.

During the induction phase of treatment, clients undergo frequent monitoring for a few weeks. Medication dosing is seven mornings a week. After stabilization, the frequency of on-site sessions decreases and a progressive responsibility program allows for individuals to take home a certain number of maintenance doses.

In conjunction with medication, Dakota clients participate in one-on-one and/or group counseling, and family sessions are available. Early counseling focuses on motivation. Later topics include physical and behavioral effects of addiction and relapse prevention.

This clinic uses methadone and buprenorphine, in addition to Suboxone, which is used by 22 percent of treatment facilities in Minnesota.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Each New Season clinic, including Dakota Treatment Center, maintains about half a dozen national and state licenses and accreditations. It is one of 36 (10 percent) certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The treatment staff includes a medical doctor, a pharmacist, nurses, and counselors who are certified in substance abuse treatment.

REVIEWS

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from Dakota Treatment Center’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff. However, feedback on two secondary review sites revealed contrasting trends. Five individuals gave the center an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars on Google. The two alumni who provided written commentary characterized their experience as life-saving and reported on various successes in recovery, including a job and financial stability. “I thought my life was over and now I got it back,” wrote J.B. [1]

By contrast, two reviewers on CiteHealth complained of clinic mistakes or disagreements with staff about dosing. “Staff never wrong and patient is always the loser,” one alum wrote. Nevertheless, both individuals provided positive ratings for the facility itself and for promptness of service. [2]

FINANCING

The Dakota Treatment Center webpage indicates that the center is one of 187 (52.5 percent) of treatment facilities to accept Medicaid. Self-pay and some other forms of insurance are listed on the main New Season website.
