No Longer Bound Philosophy

The Regeneration Program at No Longer Bound is a 12-month, residential, process of regeneration. This process differs greatly from a conventional rehabilitation program. We believe addiction to be a symptom of a life fragmented by relational wounds, broken beliefs, sustained rejection, and the resulting disintegration of meaningful intimate relationships. The regeneration process at No Longer Bound involves resolving wounds of the past, repairing damaged belief systems, restoring relational health, and facilitating lasting intimacy with God, Self, and Others. We believe this process of regeneration is the prescription for lifelong freedom from addiction.

Areas of Specialization

  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

  • Aftercare Support
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

ABOUT NO LONGER BOUND

No Longer Bound is a faith-based, men’s-only, nonprofit drug and alcohol treatment program located in Cumming, Ga. Founded in 1983 by a former marine in recovery, No Longer Bound has gone from being a simple halfway house to a comprehensive rehab facility. According to the facility’s website, more than 120 men gain admittance each year to participate in the 12-month residential Regeneration Program, which maintains an approximate 70 percent graduation rate. Detoxification services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Since admission to No Longer Bound is highly sought-after, the facility is usually filled to capacity. This rehab has very specific requirements for prospective clients, according to its website. First and foremost, clients are required to be completely sober for three days prior to admission. In addition, clients who require medical attention will not be admitted, and the use of pharmaceutical drugs such as tranquilizers, sleeping pills, and antidepressants is strictly prohibited.

During the year-long residential stay, food and transportation is provided and clients are subject to random drug testing. Residents must work at one of No Longer Bound’s many client-run businesses, which include a furniture store, a design studio, a thrift store, a nursery, and a car repair shop. There is 24-hour on-site management as well as family, group and individual counseling, including the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

Men who have completed the faith-based Regeneration Program are also welcome to take part in the Transition program, which is an additional six- to eight-week leadership training program. Aftercare is available to assist men in finding employment after completing the program and slowly transition into society.

Additionally, Family Recovery is a class offered on weekends for the loved ones of those in treatment. According to the facility's website, "classes are designed to inform, encourage, unite, and at times, challenge family members who have been relationally injured by addiction."

STAFF CREDENTIALS

While there is currently no information provided by the facility regarding the credentials of its treatment staff, leadership consists of various program directors, a licensed professional counselor, and several tiers of operational managers, according to the center’s website.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni who were polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive reviews. They both gave the center five out of five stars when asked if they would recommend No Longer Bound.

They also both gave the center five stars for cleanliness and family participation. “This is a place to find true healing from the root issues of our past that cause addiction and hopelessness,” an alum wrote. The other alum praised the program’s personalized attention and focus on personal growth, but did note that its aftercare was a weakness.

Elsewhere online to date, reviews were also generally positive. On the facility’s Facebook page, which No Longer Bound can manage, the program has received an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars based on 200 reviews at time of writing.[1] Alumni praised the center’s staff, credited No Longer Bound with saving their lives, and applauded the center’s Christian program. “The staff is unbelievably gifted and committed. What God does here is awesome, and we have since seen God rescue & restore countless other men and their families,” Mark wrote in a representative review, giving five stars.

WHAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY SAY

Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive ratings from loved ones, negative feedback was provided by a couple family members on Google. All together, there are eight ratings on Google to date that averaged four out of five stars.[2]

"The admissions process is psychologically ABUSIVE!" wrote Diana, giving one star. "The overall tone of this first interview with [the intake coordinator] was harsh and somewhat aloof, almost like he was completely indifferent to my child's situation and desire for treatment," she continued. Further Margot gave one star for her son's treatment and wrote: "The rats come out at night and infiltrate the kitchen from the walls which they live in during the day!"

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, a one-time, non-refundable fee of $15,000 is required from each client upon admission, which is used to cover some costs of treatment. This fee is collected during the intake interview. Insurance is not accepted.

Major disclaimer- I am a former client who did graduate from NLB but several years ago and steps may have been taken to deal with the issues I am about to mention. Overall there were some good guys on staff there. I will say that. And the message they preach is one that I try to apply to my life today. However, some huge problems existed during my 10 months there. Firstly, the entire property was infested, and I do mean infested, with rats and other rodents. The main residence had rat nests all in the walls and guys who lived in the downstairs bedrooms could hear rats running across the ceiling all night. But the real issue when I was there was that there was NO accountability for staff members. None. All of whom were recovering addicts themselves. Now I understand it's about the message not the messenger, but it is rather difficult to embrace the validity of the message when so many who preach it are not themselves practicing it. Again, this was years ago and many changes may have been implemented to prevent these issues. I say all this because people should know as much as possible before sending their loved ones somewhere for a year.

Do not go here if you are not married to your girlfriend they will make it that you cannot speak to her nor will she be allowed to be a part of your recovery for a year. They will make it impossible for your relationship to survive. I tried and did everything they wanted to try and be apart of my fiancé’s recovery and they added more impossible terms to it.

No Longer Bound saved my life. It gave me the tools needed to be the man God intended for me. Although it was the hardest thing I have ever done, it was also the most rewarding and beneficial things I’ve had the priviledge of going through. I would recommend this to anyone seeking help with addiction. This program works, and has lasting effects for those who want it!!

NLB is a wonderful, highly committed Christ centered organization that led my husband to sobriety and to the restoration of our family. It is hard work for all involved but a great place for a lifetime of change.

No one ever really wants to go to treatment. I went to appease family and friends. But after being at NLB for a short while, you start to see the changes that are taking place in other people’s lives and then you want that for yourself more than anything. NLB guided me through the process of finding myself and then gave me the opportunity to grow and live life with purpose! Highly recommended!

Strengths: personal growth and cater to the individual needs of the student. Weaknesses: After care. It is a look in the mirror.. a look to the past.. healing starts at the beginning.. the healing hardly has to do with the behavior of drugs.. but rather the pain behind it.
