ABOUT NORTHERN TIER COUNSELING, INC.

Located in Towanda, Penn., some 60 miles northwest of Wilkes-Barre, Northern Tier Counseling offers mental and behavioral health services, including drug and alcohol treatment. The organization’s Drug and Alcohol Services division provides a range of outpatient treatment to teens, adults, and older adults who are struggling with addiction and/or a mental health illness. Within the state, Northern Tier Counseling is among 56.6 percent of private nonprofit substance abuse treatment facilities.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Drug and Alcohol Services program offers diagnostic assessments as well as individual, group, couples, and family therapy. According to its website, the center performs Level of Care Assessments for individuals seeking treatment voluntarily as well as for those referred by the court system. This program, along with mental health services, is delivered on an outpatient basis. Treatment is customized based on clients’ needs.

Therapeutic interventions may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy, gradual exposure therapy, grief and bereavement support, and is among 53.2 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities that provide rational emotive therapy. The center also offers various group interventions, such as parenting groups and anger management groups.

In addition to personalized treatment, the program provides education and prevention services for adolescents involved in the legal system. The center partners with the local District Justices in Bradford County to offer classes in lieu of only legal consequences for their actions. Within Pennsylvania, the organization is among 22.3 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities with programs specially tailored for adolescents.

Northern Tier Counseling also operates two open access walk-in clinics each week on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and on Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. During open access hours, therapists meet with prospective patients to create a treatment plan. In addition, the center provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management for mental health conditions. such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to Northern Tier Counseling’s website, the treatment team includes licensed and certified social workers, master's level therapists, a psychiatrist, nurses, and a psychiatric nurse practitioner. There also are peer support workers.

Northern Tier Counseling’s Drug and Alcohol Services program operates out of the organization’s North Towanda office. The facility is in Bradford County at 24272 Route 6.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, the one former client polled by Rehabs.com about Northern Tier Counseling submitted abundantly positive feedback. The anonymous alum awarded perfect and near-perfect ratings for most of the survey metrics: five out of five stars for affordability, connectivity/visitor policy, discharge policies, holistic offerings, likelihood to recommend, staff experience and training, and treatment of co-occurring disorders; and four out of five stars for counseling options and worth the cost.

Concerning strengths of the facility, the reviewer wrote: "They do their best to teach you that you are worth more then you think you are and they give you the tools to work with to live up to your potential” and cited no weaknesses. They added: “They give you different groups to fit in to, to see where they can help you the most.”

On secondary sites, the facility as a whole received generally positive coverage to date: 4.1 out of five stars based on 14 reviews on Google; and one out of five stars based on one review on its unofficial Facebook page. In a representative review, C.J.T. wrote: “I am thankful to Northern Tier & the way they treated me here. It has been almost 2 years & with the combo of my therapist working with the psychiatric health professionals I have been able to cope with my issues & find ways to change my life for the better! They are great!” Negative comments concerned lack of communication, difficulty getting appointments, and the ineffectiveness of some counselors.

On secondary site Indeed to date, current and former employees offered positive impressions of Northern Tier Counseling as a whole, providing two four-star ratings and five-star rating. [3] The reviewers reported friendly and collaborative team members, supportive management, and nurturing environment. A former clinical social worker described the facility as a “Good company that provides quality services to their community”, and a former program manager referenced the “Nice workspace – private and welcoming office with windows.”

they do their best to teach you that you are worth more then you think you are and they give you the tools to work with to live up to your potential. They give you different groups to fit in to, to see where they can help you the most. Learning to look at things in a different wasy but some times it just doesn't work.
