Northland Outpatient Treatment Center (NOTC) is a privately run, state-certified, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment center in Milford, Ohio. Established in 1984, NOTC provides an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to adults aged 18 seeking treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient detox services as well as a 10-week course for expecting mothers are also offered.

The treatment process at NOTC begins with a comprehensive evaluation to determine the client’s needs and current medical condition. Clients must be in relatively good health and free of conditions that need continuing medical care to participate in the detox program. Clients have access to an IOP detox program, which is only offered in 49 (12 percent) of Ohio’s facilities. The program uses medically assisted treatment (MAT) to help clients wean off of opioids using medications.

The IOP is completed in 10 to 12 weeks, three nights per week. During this time, participants meet for private therapy and in group settings and attend 12-step meetings. The 12-step program is only available in 299 (73.1 percent) of Ohio’s facilities.

After IOP, clients may receive aftercare support, relapse prevention, crisis counseling, and case management to help gain their footing in the early stages of recovery. Loved ones are encouraged to attend once to twice weekly family education groups.

The M.O.T.H.E.R. program offers additional education and support for expecting women who are already enrolled in treatment at Northland. A healthy birth, maternal skills development, and abstinence are major focuses of this program. Only 80 (20 percent) of Ohio’s facilities offer programs for pregnant women.

Both treatment plans and the treatment itself is tailored by a team of physicians, licensed chemical dependency counselors (LCDCs), and social workers. NOTC is one of Ohio’s 101 (24.7 percent) facilities that are accredited by the Joint Commission.

At the time of this writing, the feedback about NOTC from four alumni was positive. S.S., an alum surveyed anonymously by, highlighted the program’s “Good speakers” and strict rules. They gave five out of five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience and the treatment for co-occurring disorders, yet only one star for the holistic opportunities and two stars for the 12-step programming. “Stay focused,” they added. Other alumni indicated that the program was effective for them.

Northland also has maximum five-star ratings from three Google reviewers to date.[1] Alumni wrote how it was a “great place” with staff that “actually cares about you.” However, on Yelp, one reviewer left the facility a one out of five star rating after the facility “double booked” his first appointment.[2]

At the time of this writing, only one staff member provided feedback to about NOTC. In their survey, K.C., an addition tech at Northland, gave their employer five out of five star ratings about staff credentials and experience of the medical, addiction, and mental health care staff, as well as the overall quality of patient care. They also gave positive feedback to Northland for its “excellent patient to staff ratio” and for providing clients with opportunity for off-site recreation.

NOTC participates with most insurance providers, including Medicaid. Managed care plans in the Greater Cincinnati area are also accepted. For clients with other financial needs, payments plans are possible.

Northland is a terrific treatment facility if the patient is serious about getting help. The staff is fantastic as are the facilities. Northland has strict rules and guidelines the patient needs to follow. If the patient does what they ask they will find recovery. If the patient doesn't follow the guidelines then they will wash out of program.
