Located in Winston Salem, N.C., the behavioral health unit at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center provides inpatient treatment for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Inpatient care is personalized to meet the needs of each client but is usually short term, one of 33 short-term, hospital-based inpatient facilities in North Carolina. The unit also offers outpatient services, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP) programs. If necessary, medical detox is available on-site.

According to the facility's website, residential programming includes individual counseling, group therapy, addiction education, coping skills workshops, medication management, and recreational therapy. As a hospital-based program, the goal of inpatient care is to quickly stabilize the client and refer the individual to a less-restrictive level of care.

The treatment center specializes in women’s behavioral health issues, aiming to dissolve the stigma that often prevents women from reaching out for help. In North Carolina, the facility is among the 46.2 percent of facilities to provide specialized programming for women

There is a 24/7 crisis response team who work to stabilize individuals experiencing substance abuse-related crises. Along with its IOP and PHP treatment track, the outpatient center utilizes telepsychiatry and makes house calls through a mobile crisis team.

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center's website indicates the treatment team is comprised of psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, psychiatric technicians, registered nurses, and specialized counselors.

The facility's website notes the rehab program is located within the hospital. Therefore, potential patients can expect a more clinical environment. To date, the three individuals polled by on the matter gave two perfect five-star ratings and a one-star rating for the facility's overall cleanliness.

The two alumni polled by at the time of this writing provided mixed reviews. One alum, Q.R., who received treatment in 2007, gave the accommodations and amenities a rating of four stars, but felt the treatment was lacking. “It gets you newhere,” they wrote, and added that there was "not enough one on one" time with therapists. However, Q.R. did give five stars for the respect shown to clients and four stars for the effectiveness of group counseling.

An anonymous alum issued a slightly more favorable review. They disliked the food and felt that the staff over-prescribed medication, but still gave their treatment a rating of four out of five stars for its effectiveness , noting the “nice facility.”

On Google, 223 reviewers at the time of this writing provided an average rating of 2.6 out of five stars, although many of those were directed at the facility in general as opposed to the behavioral care unit.[1] Many complaints revolved around long wait times.

The two loved ones surveyed by at the time of this writing also provided mixed feedback. An anonymous family member felt that the staff was unresponsive and unconcerned with the welfare of their family member. This reviewer issued only one star for holistic offerings, the staff’s level of support, cleanliness, and family involvement. They wrote: “PATIENT CONCERN WAS NOT THEIR TOP PRIORITY,” citing that once insurance stopped coverage, they discharged the client without concern.

The other loved one gave four stars when asked if they would recommend the treatment center, and five stars for the staff's level of training and experience. "Work with families to help understand," they wrote.

According the facility’s website, some financial assistance is available. Medicaid and private insurance are accepted. Self-pay is also an option, and there are some discounts for those who are uninsured. In North Carolina, the facility is among 67.2 percent of facilities to accept Medicaid.

Exersize resources and group therapy.Expensive, tends to over-prescribe treatment. Nice facility, but poor and incorrect (when given a choice) food.
