ABOUT OAKVIEW BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER
Located 20 minutes from Cleveland, Southwest General’s Oakview Behavioral Health Center provides behavioral health services for adults and adolescents. Oakview treats individuals struggling with mental health disorders and/or addiction through inpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs.
Emergency assessments are available around-the-clock through Southwest General’s Emergency Department.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to its website, Oakview strives to “provide the highest quality of care in the least restrictive and most cost-effective environment.” All clients begin their recovery with a comprehensive evaluation that helps inform the appropriate level of treatment.
Mental health programs are arranged according to age and level of intensity and employ dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Adults may benefit from a stay in Oakview’s 18-bed inpatient facility. In addition to attending one-on-one, group, and family therapy sessions, inpatient clients are engaged in educational programming and participate in active therapy. Residents also have access to diagnostic and evaluation services and psychopharmacology.
The PHP option is designed for adults transitioning from inpatient treatment or those seeking intensive treatment in a less restrictive setting. Here, adults meet three to five days per week for DBT-based therapy. Featuring similar services, IOP treatment equips adults and adolescents (ages 13 to 18) with techniques and skills to reduce their stress, anxiety, and depression. To reach as many individuals as possible, Oakview offers both morning and evening programs.
Adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse have access to Oakview’s abstinence-based, outpatient chemical dependency program. Treatment is based on 12-step principles and features group therapy and educational programming that addresses issues such as addiction as disease, enabling, detachment, and family dynamics. Parental involvement is highly encouraged and “expected.” In addition, adults have access to weekly aftercare.
The center’s website notes Oakview is staffed by a team of physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, counselors, social workers, and therapists.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Oakview is based on a nine-acre wooded lot on the grounds of Southwest General, according to the center’s website. In operation since 1991, the 18-bed facility was designed to provide clients with a comforting, relaxed recovery, featuring large windows that overlook the wooded terrain below.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni have mixed opinions of Oakview Behavioral Health Care. The sole former client to share their experience with Rehabs.com to date expressed disappointment with Oakview. While the anonymous alum gave credit to the “caring and understanding” staff, they also wrote about communication issues between doctors and patients. “Had I been given the option, I would have chosen a different facility,” this alum wrote.
The four individuals who left reviews for Oakview Behavioral Health Center on CiteHealth at the time of this writing provided polarizing opinions of the center and generated a three-star overall rating. Two reviewers gave five out of five stars for care, staff, and overall experience, while the other two reviewers gave two out of five stars for each of these categories.
On Google, the facility has a slightly higher average of 3.7 stars from nine reviewers. While multiple complaints were left about specific doctors, more general, positive feedback exists as well. “This place is wonderful, very friendly staff and great programs,” Trevor wrote in a representative review.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The three loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing shared mostly positive experiences. The individuals, who all chose to remain anonymous, gave this facility either three- or four- out of five star ratings for its counseling options, exercise and leisure options, and treatment affordability.
“The staff explained things well, which was not explained well at other facilities,” a loved one wrote. Yet, another reviewer felt that family participation at the center “wasn’t great,” and the third wrote to Rehabs.com of their brother who attended treatment “soo many times” and noted: “Doesnt work.” The same reviewer, however, called Oakview “nice and clean” and said that it “trys the best to get people off the drugs and alcohal.”
According to the center’s website, Southwest General has managed care contracts that provide an extensive list of insurance plans. The facility also accepts self-pay, Medicaid, Medicare, and provides financial assistance for those who qualify.
