Review by Rehabs.com Contributors

Located in Camden, Ark., the Ouachita County Medical Center’s (OCMC) Chemical Dependency Unit treats individuals struggling with substance misuse via a therapeutic approach that combines a behavioral/medical model, family systems theory, and 12-step principles. Treatment options available at this facility include a residential/inpatient program, partial hospitalization program (PHP), outpatient services, and medical detox services.

Depending on a client’s specific needs, treatment may include intervention, educational therapy, individual, family and group therapy, psychological and psychiatric evaluations, medical services, employee assistance, and aftercare. When appropriate, clients have access to medical detox with 24-hour nursing care.

OCMC's residential program lasts up to four weeks. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 18.6 percent of rehabs in Arkansas offered a short-term (30 days or less) residential program.

At Ouachita, the end goal of treatment is total abstinence. To that end, programming helps clients develop the motivation and a personal support system to bring about long-term health and productivity. Though the program is individualized, all clients receive a comprehensive physical exam and lab tests.

All graduates are encouraged to build a relationship with support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and family members are urged to attend Al-Anon meetings. Free aftercare, whether at Ouachita or other nearby sites, is also available.

The chemical dependency unit is well staffed, with a multidisciplinary treatment team that consists of registered nurses, a medical director, a consulting psychiatrist and clinical psychologist, certified substance abuse counselors, licensed chemical dependency counselors, a clinical nutritionist, and others.

OCMC's chemical dependency facility has 23 beds, just under the average number of designated beds (30) at residential rehab facilities in Arkansas.

Though no further information regarding the facility's accommodations and amenities are available on OCMC's website, the lone individual surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave four or five stars out of five to all relevant categories, including cleanliness, exercise and leisure options, and the quality of meals.

Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive any reviews from alumni, feedback on third-party review sites was mixed. On Google, OCMC's chemical dependency unit has a single five-star review.[1] On OCMC's unofficial Facebook page, however, the organization as a whole held an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars based on 82 reviews.[2]

Commentary on the site was mixed. “I got some of the best care I have ever got... I would like to Thank all the staff that took very good care of me I had some of the BEST Nurse anyone could ask for,” Facebook user Thomas wrote in a representative review. Others, in contrast, considered the staff unprofessional and “incompetent,” while reviewer Brynten wrote that it was "the worst hospital in Arkansas." (Note: reviews on Facebook were of the organization as a whole and not specific to the OCMC's chemical dependency unit.)

The single anonymous loved one polled by Rehabs.com described OCMC as a “great facility” and felt that they were genuinely “concerned with the patient’s health.” In addition, this reviewer gave exclusively four- and five-star ratings out of five across more than a dozen metrics evaluated, including counseling options, staff’s level of training and experience, family participation, and holistic offerings.

OCMC accepts most major insurance plans, as well as Medicare and military insurance. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 35.6 percent of rehabs in Arkansas accept Medicare, while 46.6 accept military insurance. Financial assistance is also available to those who qualify.
