ABOUT OUR LADY OF THE LAKE

Our Lady of the Lake, a hospital in Baton Rouge, La., offers a range of treatment programs for adults, adolescents, and seniors struggling with psychiatric disorders, chemical dependency, or co-occurring issues. Levels of treatment include age-specific residential programs, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and specialized intensive outpatient (IOP) programs. Additionally, the hospital’s Family Center provides outpatient services for adolescents. If necessary, the hospital also facilitates detoxification through its Tau Medical Detox Unit.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, upon admission, clients participate in an initial evaluation to assess the contributing factors leading to hospitalization. The goal of the short-term programs is to stabilize the individual and refer clients to less-intensive levels of treatment. The average length of detoxification or residential treatment in the Tau Medical Detox Unit is between three and five days.

During residential treatment, clients participate in individual and group counseling sessions. Treatment programming for chemical dependency also incorporates 12-step principles.

Along with treatment for substance use disorders, Our Lady of the Lake treats individuals struggling with grief, anxiety, depression, anger, panic attacks, and other psychiatric and emotional issues. Clients with a psychiatric disorder or a dual diagnosis may receive ongoing medication management. Family involvement during treatment is highly encouraged.

Once a client is stabilized, adults may be referred to the IOP, which includes programming Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., or to a specialized adult outpatient program. Sessions on substance use disorders are held three times per week from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., while outpatient sessions for primary psychiatric disorders are held on weekday mornings.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Our Lady of the Lake employs a multidisciplinary team of board-certified psychiatrists, mental health and substance abuse counselors, child and adolescent psychologists, licensed social workers, registered nurses, nutritionists, physical therapists, spirituality counselors, and activity counselors, according to the center’s website.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

No specific information is available regarding the accommodations of the inpatient programs. However, the eight individuals polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the center four out of five stars for accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The three alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback. Out of five stars, they gave the center two five-star ratings and a four-star rating when asked if they would recommend Our Lady of the Lake.

They gave the center top marks for the staff’s level of experience and training, and a combination of four- and five-star ratings for the level of family participation, cleanliness, and affordability. The center’s holistic offerings received the most lukewarm ratings of three and four stars.

All alumni mentioned how great the staff was. “Great councelers… It was a good rehabilitation center if you go in wanting help,” an alum wrote.

Elsewhere online at the time of this writing, there were 85 reviews on Google averaging three out of five stars.[1] Reviews are for the hospital as a whole, though, and not for substance abuse treatment in particular.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of the five loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, four gave mostly positive reviews and one provided negative feedback. On average, they gave the center 3.8 out of five stars when asked if they would recommend Our Lady of the Lake to others in need of treatment.

All respondents tended to agree with alumni concerning the lack of holistic treatments. They also rated the holistic offerings the lowest, with an average of 2.5 out of five stars. “More set up like a jail institution, no exercise, not allowed outdoors, no variety of therapy,” a loved one wrote.

Like alumni, the other reviewers highlighted the staff. “They help you find the root of your problem and teaches you how to deal with it,” they wrote.

“Excellent doctors and nurses who really care for the patients,” another loved one wrote.

FINANCING

The center’s website notes Our Lady of the Lake accepts most private insurance providers, Medicare, and Medicaid. The hospital also offers financial assistance to eligible individuals.

They help you find the root of your problem and teaches you how to deal with it. I don't think the programs are long enough. A loved one was admitted here.

Lots of structure but does not involve patients in the path top recovery, more set up like a jail institution, no exercise, not allowed outdoors, no variety of therapy, the dorm employees lack warmth, kindness, and compassion. If you're looking for a well balanced facility to help take control of your addiction, this is not it. This facility is more institution based not wellness focused.
