ABOUT OWENSBORO HEALTH - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE

Located in Owensboro, Ky., Owensboro Health Regional Hospital's behavioral health care department offers short-term inpatient and outpatient care for adults with behavioral issues including addiction to drugs and alcohol.

According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 9.5 percent of treatment facilities in Kentucky offer outpatient day treatment in a hospital setting and 4.5 offer hospital inpatient treatment.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Owensboro Health treats individuals affected by a wide range of behavioral concerns including but not limited to the following: trauma, drug and alcohol addiction, familial and relationship challenges, neurocognitive disorders, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. Inpatient care is typically for patients experiencing a behavioral crisis.

Though treatment is usually short-term — with an average stay of three days— each client receives a personalized treatment plan consisting of therapy in both private and group settings, exercise, and medication management and prescription.

Clients may access treatment either through the hospital’s emergency department or as a referral from a doctor or therapist.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Multidisciplinary in nature, the hospital staff includes an experienced team of social workers, nurses and nurse practitioners, counselors, and therapists. Clients may also receive spiritual guidance and support from a hospital chaplain.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The behavioral health program is operated in a 12-bed inpatient unit. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, there is an average of 36 beds at hospital inpatient facilities in Kentucky. Visiting hours take place daily from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Though the hospital provides few additional details on its accommodations, the two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date each gave four or five stars for accommodations and amenities, meals and nutrition, exercise and leisure opportunities, and level of cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive any reviews from alumni, four individuals on Google contributed to an average rating of 2.8 out of five stars.[1] The two positive reviews focused on the staff. "Always been treated well here. The staff is so nice!"
Rebecca wrote in a representative review. The one negative review emphasized the lack of individualized care and attention and characterized the facility as having a "drive through mentality."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave reviews that were mostly but not entirely positive. Both loved ones described the staff as “very encouraging and supportive,” “friendly,” and “very professional." They gave ratings of three, four, and five stars to most other metrics including treatment for co-occurring disorders, counseling options, the level of family inclusion, and the overall effectiveness of treatment.

More critically, one reviewer reported a need for improved follow-up procedures while the other loved one wrote: “Not enough rest.”

FINANCING

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital accepts most major private health insurance plans as well as Medicaid and Medicare. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 39.3 percent of treatment facilities in Kentucky accept Medicare and 64.6 percent accept Medicaid.
