ABOUT PARDEE HOSPITAL ADDICTION AND RECOVERY

Located at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., one of 12 hospitals belonging to UNC Health Care, is PATHS, a short-term, 21-bed detoxification and psychiatry unit that specializes in treating individuals facing both substance use and mental health disorders.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

PATHS (Psychiatric and Addictions Therapeutic Healing Services) is a short-term program that focuses primarily on crisis stabilization and medical detoxification. To date, PATHS is one of just 23 (4.9 percent) of hospital-based inpatient treatment programs as well as one of just 31 (6.6 percent of) hospital-based detoxification programs in the state of North Carolina.

According to its website, the 21-bed unit helps participants improve their coping skills and better manage their mental illness and addiction, ultimately becoming more independent and self-reliant. Participation at Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings is strongly encouraged here, making PATHS one of just 328 (69.5 percent) of facilities in the state of North Carolina that work with the 12 Steps.

PATHS also accepts referrals 24 hour a day from emergency departments as well as primary care doctors and mental health professionals.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team at PATHS is led by a medical director and consists of registered nurses, recreation therapists, and master’s level social workers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the hospital regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, two individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com gave the hospital-based program five out of five stars for the hospital’s accommodations and meals, while the third gave just three stars in these areas.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

In their anonymous Rehabs.com survey responses, a pair of PATHS alumni listed the staff as a program strength, though one felt the doctors were a program weakness. “The doctors needs to tone it downs,” they explained. Additionally, both alumni gave four or five out of five stars for a variety of metrics including the staff’s level of training and experience, the counseling options, and the administrative policies.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one to have completed a Rehabs.com survey to date offered more mixed feedback. The anonymous reviewer told Rehabs.com that “the treatment and mental and physical activity were wonderful but the time approved by insurance was just too short a time.” Still, they shared ratings of three or more stars for the center's counseling options, level of family participation, and the staff's level of training and experience.

FINANCING

Pardee Hospital is one of just 294 (62.3 percent) of hospitals in the state that accepts private health insurance. Pardee also offers financial assistance for those who “may not be able to access or afford US medical insurance, either individually or through their employer."
