Pathways Treatment Center, located in Kalispell, Mont., offers a 40-bed residential and detox treatment program to adults and adolescents seeking treatment for mental health or substance abuse disorders. It is one of 25 facilities in the state that offer programs for adolescents. The Pathways Treatment Center is a service of the Kalispell Regional Medical Center and was established in 1994. The facility also hosts community meetings open to the public including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings and a depression support group.

The facility’s Psychiatric Program is conducted during a short-term stay, making it one of 10 short-term treatment programs. The program is focused on helping clients with emotional and psychiatric problems to stabilize, receive medication management, and learn healthy coping skills.

The program aims to develop individualized treatment plans that allow clients to transition easily back to their communities following treatment. Throughout the psychiatric program, clients can expect to meet daily with a psychiatrist and an assigned counselor, receive a chemical dependency evaluation if necessary, attend family meetings as needed, receive therapeutic services and aftercare planning.

The residential Chemical Dependency Program provides 24-hour medically-monitored detox services. There are only four detox facilities in Montana. Clients receiving detox services can expect to receive a daily visit by a medical doctor, around-the-clock nursing care, medications administered by physician order, and therapeutic services as tolerated by the client.

Clients in need of co-occurring disorder treatment will receive services to address both psychological and emotional concerns concurrently with chemical dependency issues. The facility helps clients to recognize the dependent relationship of mental illness and substance use.

The adolescent program is held in a separate treatment wing of the hospital, away from the adult program. Many of the treatment goals remain the same in the adolescent program with the added component of including families throughout the treatment program. The facility helps to ensure proper placement and coordination of services for these adolescents following their stay at the facility.

Pathways receives clients on a voluntary base, meaning that clients present for treatment at their own will, or as an involuntary admission when clients are required by law to stay at the facility during a mental health crisis or emergency detention. In Montana, 17 facilities have programs for clients with legal requirements.

The treatment team includes psychiatrists, medical doctors, nurses, and counselors. Staff members specialize in a variety of care types including adolescent and substance abuse specializations.

Clients share a bedroom with at least one other roommate during their stay. The length of stay varies for each client. Clients are not allowed to use cell phones or other electronic devices during treatment. Belts, lighters, knives, weapons, money and sharp objects are also not allowed. No food is allowed to be brought in from outside the facility and Pathways is a tobacco-free facility.

At the time of this writing there has been one alum polled by about Pathways Treatment Center. The anonymous alum gave a very positive review of the facility and strongly agreed that she would recommend this facility to a friend or loved one who was considering rehab. However, she gave only three out of five stars when asked if there were many counseling options to choose from depending on the client’s preference. The alum felt that a strength of the facility was the strong support she received. She felt that the facility could improve upon providing more information and participation in the 12-step program and in allowing clients to stay at the facility longer. The alum gave four out of five stars for facility cleanliness and affordability, as well as five stars for the treatment of co-occurring disorders and the level of staff experience.

On the facility’s Google page, there is an overall rating of three out of five stars based on eight total reviews to date.[1] Two of the negative reviews were from people who didn’t attend the facility but were on the long waiting list. Another anonymous reviewer wrote about the poor food quality, writing “really bad had horrible food worst restrant ever.” However other reviews provided positive feedback about the “caring staff” and how it helped them “escape from the outside world.”

On Indeed, Pathways Treatment Center has an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars from four reviews.[2] Current and former employees described an environment that’s “constantly busy” and that has “Great coworkers.” However, in one note of criticism of its sister Kalispell facility, a former employee wrote how “upper management does not provide an adequate budget to provide the patients with the best experience.”

Pathways accepts private insurance and is one of 46 facilities to accept a sliding scale for financial assistance. It is one of the 38 facilities that will provide treatment to clients that cannot pay.

Pathways and its parent organization, Kalispell Regional Healthcare, are involved in the community as much as possible. It holds community events like the Annual Rad Ride to raise money for research and treatments. These events continue to draw in community members for a good cause.

Strong support. More info and participation for 12 step programs... I wish it was a longer term care provider I was out after 12 days. And had to go to another facility and no comparison between then. The other one was awful.
