Phoenix House is a nonprofit addiction treatment organization with locations across the country, including 20 residential and outpatient facilities across New York City and Long Island. The Brentwood campus, located in Pilgrim Psychiatric Center, just off I-495 on Long Island, offers sober living facilities for adult men, outpatient care for adult and adolescent males and females, residential and outpatient treatment for military personnel, and community-based and outpatient services for individuals struggling with mental illness.

Clients are assessed to determine their individual treatment needs. Then, a comprehensive treatment plan is developed in conjunction with therapy and assessment specialists. Each plan is tailored to the needs of each client, so variations in treatment methods exist.

According to the facility's website, treatment is evidence-based and trauma-informed, and ascribes to the view that addiction is a chronic disease. Specifically, programs use individual, group, and family therapy alongside cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to address addiction behavior. The program also focuses on providing education about addiction, as well as anger management to help clients make better decisions. Though the 12-Steps are not an integral part of the program, the facility does make 12-step literature available for all clients who wish to participate in the fellowship.

Aside from substance abuse treatment, Phoenix House focuses on developing life skills so that clients can successfully manage their post-treatment sobriety maintenance. Vocational and educational training is available for clients that qualify. After treatment is completed, clients are encouraged to take advantage of local group meetings with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and other support organizations to help maintain their sobriety.

The staff includes a social worker and a credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor. Several team members are in recovery as well. This program also has specialized therapists on hand including music therapists to facilitate specialized therapy options. The remainder of the staff is comprised of certified medical and therapy specialists and support staff members that have experience working with substance abuse clients.

The residential facilities are reserved for men as the program focuses on providing gender-specific treatment options. Clients share living space as well as a range of amenities. The facility is designed to accommodate recreational activities include meditation, yoga, martial arts, basketball, fitness trails, and music therapy. The facility is non-smoking, but smoking cessation courses are available for those that need help to stop smoking.

Phoenix House is a TC and focuses more on changing your thoughts and feelings. Although they do encourage AA and NA meetings, they are not part of the program.
