The James Ottmar Residential Center for Women offers 30, 90, and 180-day treatment tracks.
The facility’s program is focused on providing individualized, evidence-based treatment. Throughout treatment, clients receive individual and group counseling, vocational training, life-skills training, anger management, and housing assistance. Phoenix House also offers equine therapy as well as a unique music program which includes a professional on-site recording studio allowing clients to compose, perform, and record their own original music. Families are included in the treatment program through family counseling sessions, multifamily group therapy sessions, and bilingual educational sessions.
The treatment team at Phoenix House includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, registered nurses, licensed family therapists, certified alcoholism and substance abuse counselors, and other professionals such as clinical case managers, continuing care counselors, and wellness specialists.

The facility was rated lowest for holistic offerings, with an average rating of 2.8 stars, and exercise and leisure options, which received 3.5 stars.
When asked to comment on facility strengths, all four of the loved ones complimented the staff , saying they were well-trained and nice. When asked to comment on facility weaknesses, the reviewers said the facility needs “better food,” is “a little run down,” and “was mediocre.” One reviewer added additional commentary, saying, “My friend got the help she needed and was supported.”
On the facility’s Google page, there is an overall rating of four out of five stars based on five total reviews. These reviews are not exclusively for the Exeter James Ottmar Residential Program for Women, and include reviews for the organization’s three other Exeter locations.
The reviews are positive, with only one reviewer indicating a low opinion of the facility. Alum D.M., who gave four stars, said that he wished group meetings included more recovery principles, but expressed mostly positive opinions of Phoenix House. He wrote, “They are a good group of people...The staff is wonderful.” J.M., another alum, supported that viewpoint. He gave five stars and wrote, “Saved my life, great staff. I am very grateful.”
