Phoenix Recovery Center Philosophy
At Phoenix Recovery Center, individuals are given the opportunity to garner the necessary tools to promote personal growth and enduring recovery from substance abuse and addiction. Therapies aim to treat the individual as a holistic whole, utilizing approaches such as guided meditation, walking groups, family education, group counseling, and even Nintendo Wii Therapy to provide clients with a well-rounded foundation for lasting sobriety.
Areas of Specialization
Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

ABOUT PHOENIX RECOVERY CENTER
Founded in 2002 and located 30 miles northeast of Baltimore in the community of Edgewood, Md., Phoenix Recovery Center (PRC) offers residential treatment for adults who are struggling with substance abuse disorders. If necessary, medically-supervised detoxification is available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment begins with an initial assessment of the individual, which evaluates the client's mental health, medical needs, and substance abuse history. Clients also undergo an initial physical.
Group therapy is the primary treatment modality with individual sessions integrated as needed, and gender-specific groups are offered. Programming also include educational lectures, relapse prevention work, and an introduction to the 12-step model of recovery.
Along with traditional treatment methods, PRC incorporates a range of holistic and alternative therapies, including acupuncture, acudetox, guided meditation, walking groups, aromatherapy, Nintendo Wii therapy, canine therapy, and drum therapy.
For loved ones, PRC also offers a family education program. The four-week family program educates loved ones on the disease of addiction and the process of recovery. Before discharge, continuing care coordinators ensure that all clients leave with a comprehensive aftercare plan.
