Phoenix Recovery Programs - Mankato Philosophy

Phoenix Recovery Programs specializes in providing chemically-dependent young men with the necessary tools to achieve lasting sobriety in their daily lives. Using therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), addiction education, 12-Step services, goal setting strategies and health awareness education, Phoenix Recovery Programs provides recovering teens with a comprehensive range of resources designed to suit each client’s recovery needs and ambitions.

Areas of Specialization

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The focus of cognitive behavioral therapy (also called CBT) is helping people to understand the thoughts and emotions that underlie their addiction with the goal of learning new, healthier and more productive ways to understand and express themselves.

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

Phoenix Recovery Programs is a private nonprofit organization with multiple locations that provides adolescents and young adults with treatment for substance use disorder. It's among the 20.8 percent of facilities in Minnesota to offer specialized treatment for adolescents, and among the 18.8 percent of facilities in the state to provide specialized treatment for young adults.

The Mankato office, located in the center of the city, provides outpatient treatment to clients up to age 19. Residential programming is available at the location in Maplewood.

The center’s abstinence-based treatment approach is based on the 12-Steps, and supplemented by evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational enhancement therapy (MET).

Clients participate in group and individual therapy, as well as relapse prevention training and anger management workshops. The center also urges families to get involved in the treatment process, which may include family counseling, educational classes, and discharge planning.

The program also offers education on health (e.g., diet, exercise, and nutrition suggestions), family dynamics, and goal setting, as well as groups for clients with co-occurring disorders. The program is among the 51.1 percent of facilities in the state to offer specialized treatment for dual diagnosis.

In the Mankato office outpatient program (OP), clients attend school on-site from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. under the auspices of the local school district and then go to lunch and the community center. They participate in therapy groups in the afternoon. The OP is held on a 90-day cycle.

The treatment team includes a psychologist, licensed addiction counselors, mental health therapists, social workers, teachers, and program and residence directors and managers.

M.M., the one alum polled by to date, gave the Mankato office positive feedback. She indicated that the treatment was effective, particularly for clients with co-occurring disorders. "PRP is the best aldolecent treatment center I had been through," M.M. wrote. "The dual diagnosis aspect opens a lot of doors for clients. Astoundingly professional and hardworking staff. I will always recommend Phoenix." On Google[1], the Mankato office received one five-star rating and one one-star rating, though no comments were left.

PRP is the best aldolecent treatment center I had been through. They find the source of the problem and help you rise and grow from it. The dual diagnosis aspect opens a lot of doors for clients. Astoundingly professional and hardworking staff. I will always recommend Phoenix.
