ABOUT POSITIVE IMPACT
Positive Impact Health Centers provide care for members of the HIV community. With two centers around Atlanta — one in the city's midtown and this center 30 miles northeast of the city center, in the suburb of Duluth — the organization provides HIV and STI testing and counseling, housing assistance, and case management, as well as outpatient counseling at varying intensities for mental health disorders and substance use disorder.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The ethos of Positive Impact's addiction treatment services is that addiction is best treated by addressing each person as a whole, taking into account their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
The most intensive level of care available at Positive Impact is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that meets over the course of nine months, with three stages of treatment at tapering intensities. Any client who already has 90 days clean or who has recently completed another program can enroll directly at stage two. Otherwise, clients begin by meeting for five full afternoons a week, and by the last phase, they meet for just two evenings a week.
In addition to the IOP, the Duluth center provides a regular process group designed to offer peer support in helping clients to avoid risky behaviors and to adjust their relationship with addiction.
Also available on an outpatient, individually scheduled basis are individual counseling and acceptance commitment therapy (ACT). ACT helps clients to accept life's changes and move forward, and includes a mindfulness component.
Finally, Positive Impact offers outpatient substance use counseling specifically for individuals leaving jails and prisons. The program is designed to reduce recidivism and help participants to address their addictive and criminal thinking.
Positive Impact employs an MD, nurses, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, licensed professional counselors, and licensed clinical social workers, though some of these staff members are based in midtown Atlanta rather than Duluth.
Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff; however, secondary sites did yield some feedback from alumni, and it was mostly positive: the Duluth facility had three five-star ratings and a one-star rating on Google at the time of this writing. The one-star reviewer left no commentary with their rating, while the three positive reviewers spoke in glowing terms, repeatedly describing the facility as "the best." "They have very good actitud and they save my live," A.R. wrote in a typical review.
Staff reviewers had left mixed feedback on secondary sites at the time of this writing: a three-star rating on Indeed.com and two five-star ratings on Glassdoor. The positive reviewers described the facility as a very good learning environment. "Wonderful staff that clearly care for their clientele," one anonymous former intern added on Glassdoor. "Doing great work but not a great place to work. Very stressful. Poor leadership," was the appraisal of the three-star reviewer, writing on Indeed.com.
Positive Impact accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and various PPO policies; the organization does not accept any HMO insurance. Positive Impact also appears to offer some financial assistance, for qualifying uninsured clients. The precise details of program costs are not available at the time of this writing.
A local news report published in June 2017 indicated that Positive Impact had recently received a large grant and would soon be relocating both its Duluth and its Midtown facilities, though both facilities will remain open.
