Principles Recovery Center Philosophy

At Principles Recovery Center we believe in a small community that allows for maximum 1 on 1 clinician time and the most exposure to therapy throughout your time with us. We take pride in our facility only allowing people who genially want to get clean to be a patient. We believe a facilities pride should be in its clinical success rate rather than just its appearance in photos.

Our slogan "It's not what we do, It's who we are" defines our organization as we have been down the same road as you. We are family owned and operated unlike other facilities and we will welcome you or your loved one into our center with open arms.

There's rehab and then there's Principles Recovery Center. We put therapy over everything else: Each of our clinicians has over 20+ years experience in the field of substance abuse, out staff to client trio is 1.2:1, our group sizes do not exceed 10 people(average is 5). We accept most insurances as well as Self Pay Opportunities for those without insurance.

We ask anyone considering to join our family to please see our Facebook reviews which detail the experiences of our former clients:

We also have an after/evening Spanish Program!

Areas of Specialization

  • Individualized Treatment
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction

Principles Recovery Center is a family owned and operated drug and alcohol rehabilitation center located in Davie, Fla, just west of Fort Lauderdale. One of 352 (52.7 percent) private facilities in the state of Florida, Principles Recovery offers partial hospitalization (day treatment) care, intensive outpatient (IOP) programming, and sober living services for men and women struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.

In addition to its varying levels of outpatient care, the center provides aftercare as well as referrals for clients requiring detox at a nearby affiliated facility. Services may also be available in Spanish.

At the highest level of care available at Principles Recovery Center is a partial hospitalization (PHP) track. Also known as day treatment, this intermediate care option befits individuals who are either transitioning from an inpatient setting or simply unable to forgo any of their commitments to work, school, or family. While PHP is demanding insofar as it demands attendance five days a week, amounting to roughly 25 hours a week, program participants do return home or to a nearby sober living facility each evening.

While the PHP focuses primarily on relapse prevention through group therapy participation, IOP devotes more time to preparing clients for a smooth transition following an intensive stay in treatment. Both tracks offer clients opportunity for building trusting relationships with their therapist as well as for learning practical skills and coping strategies in group and family sessions. The IOP is available both day and evening, making Principles Recovery just one of 287 (43.0 percent) facilities statewide that run an IOP.

Other modalities and therapies introduced to outpatients include 12-step concepts, faith-based groups, addiction education, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Individuals with co-occurring mental health disorders, like anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, receive treatment that addresses any underling issues along with medication management.

Aftercare comes in the form of vocational training workshops, job placement services, and housing assistance for all program alumni.

Clinicians working at Principles Recovery Center have more than 80 years of collective experience in treating addiction. The center maintains a rather intimate staff-to-client ratio of 1:3 and boasts a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, master's level counselors, social workers, and registered nurses. Several staff members possess years of experience in recovery themselves.

Although Principles Recovery offers outpatient programs only, those enrolled in PHP may opt for the additional support and communal structure of a sober living residence. It accommodates as many as 20 individuals in a comfortable and simple setting, facilitating a primary focus on recovery, not amenities.

Participants do, however, benefit from meditation, yoga, fishing trips, and regular access to a gym.

Feedback provided by alumni is overwhelmingly positive. Collectively, the eight former program participants surveyed by to date described a well-rounded, affordable program that is run by an experienced, knowledgeable, caring, and friendly staff. These reviewers also highlighted clean and comfortable facilities, strong aftercare planning, and a family-friendly atmosphere:

Would recommend: 5/5
Staff’s level of training and experience: 5/5
Family participation: 5/5
Cleanliness: 5/5
Affordability: 4.75/5

“This place saved my life,” proud program alum Steven wrote in one such review. “If you are looking for a place that puts the patient first you have found it here.”

The four loved ones who provided feedback on their family’s experience shared similarly high levels of approval with, also recommending the center and praising the staff in its ability to treat co-occurring mental health disorders:

Staff’s level of training and experience: 5/5
Cleanliness: 4.5/5
Affordability: 4.5/5

“This is a first rate facility with a genuine, caring Management, clinical staff, to include their technicians,” wrote grateful father William in a representative statement. “I highly recommend Principles to care for your loved ones.” A mother named Linda claimed that Principles was the very first program her son attended that “cares more about the people than money.”

Both employees surveyed by to date gave high ratings of four or five out of five stars for nearly all of the abovementioned categories.

One staff member listed the “strong faculty commitment to patient success and healthy recovery” as a facility strength, yet the other, however, noted a need for improved housing.

A month spent in PHP comes to $12,000. Principles Recovery Center is also one of 463 (just 69.3 percent) facilities in the state of Florida whose services are covered by private health insurance plans (it lists Cigna, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield on its website). Public insurances, however, like Medicare, are not accepted here.

As a mother of a heroin and polysubstance addict I have lived with and fought for my son's life. Unconditional love would not let me or my husband give up on our child. In the beginning of our fight for his life we were lost, we were uneducated to what was happening and how to help him. We learned very quickly in our state that there was no help with detox only replacement therapy. The multitude of events we were dealing with was suffocating. We were dealing with crimes, police, detectives, probation officers, court rooms, lawyers, DA' s, judges, jail time, visiting hours, a court ordered treatment facility, drug induced psychosis, strangers coming and going from our home at all hours, fighting with our loved one, hurtful words being said, holes punched through walls, broken hearts by ALL who loved him and every time he would scream at me to "leave me the **** a lone!" My response remained the same, "I'm not going anywhere because I love you." Frustration and fear of "That dreaded phone call" was always first and foremost in our minds 24/7. Slowly we began to get educated. It started with realizing that there was no "one" single answer to such a complex disease. After meeting with NAMI, police officers, Dr's, counselors, ER Dr's, more frustration, more road blocks, high cost help, lack of insurance help, we just started talking to anyone who would listen to us. Talking to the local police, state police and staff in the emergency room was a huge step. Our son was young, strong and NOT thinking clearly. Why talk to all these people? We saw too many young people being shot and killed because of erratic behavior. We were not going to allow that to happen to our son. I feel this also helped them see our son, the addict, in a different way. He came from a loving home and he was a great person who was hurting and needed help. As the days, months and years went by we continued to learn more and more about addiction. With help from a family friend we began our journey seeking help from out of state Rehab facilities in Florida. We used a few different facilities over the course of a few years. I believe we all learned something positive from each one. The most important advice I got was, relapse is part of recovery and we had to focus on getting back to recovery and put our focus there and not on the relapse. With hearts breaking we continued to push forward. With lots of prayers, tears and perseverance we refused to give up. From Maine to Florida and many phone calls we kept getting him back into treatment and each time we felt we all learned, grew and experienced something good and not just the bad. Even as we closed in on our last recovery facility we had days and nights of terrible fears. He was removed from a facility for breaking rules, moved to another, he left there refusing to go back.... After work, late that night, when he was angry that he had no place to go I finally agreed to let my husband book him a room with the stipulation that in fact he did have a place to go and he was to go back there in the morning. Principles Recovery was that place. We prayed and they were answered, he went back! He connected with a female counselor who he was able to truly relate to and we watched him grow. Principles is a small facility that has people who truly care about the wellbeing of the addict. To Principles the addict is part of the family. January 4, 2018 will mark 2 years of living a clean and sober life!! We still live one day at a time, however, our sons growth continues through his work with Principles Recovery. Both my husband and I highly recommend trusting Principles with your loved one, and we pray that your loved one will finally be able to see the glimmer of light out of their darkness with the love and help of Principles Recovery! Never stop believing in hope. Signed, a grateful mother, father and family of an addict ❤

I have my son back. I lost him to an overdose in December of 2016. He was revived and agreed to enter his 4th treatment center. I credit Principles Recovery Center with saving my son. He is on the path to recovery and is an active member of the Principles Alumni Community. This is a first rate facility with a genuine, caring Management, clinical staff, to include their technicians. I highly recommend Principles to care for your loved ones.

Principles is an amazing Treatment Center. I have had this one woman as a therapist before and she is amazing. They have a loving staff, all the groups made me really think about the negative actions I was taking. The COO is also an awesome guy. He has helped out thousands of struggling addicts in South Florida. Principles is a place where I would send a loved one and know they are getting top notch Treatment.

Strengths: People, Program, and Family Atmosphere. I can not even express the gratitude I have for Principles Recovery Center, from the staff who genuinely cares and it's evident to the facility itself. This place has given me a whole new perspective on what it means to be in recovery and life in general. The amount of support and help is always there for the taking. This is not a business, this is a place where the staff takes pride in watching us grow and supporting us each step of the way.
