Every day, we at Project Turnabout witness firsthand, the miracle of lives being restored from the devastation of drug and alcohol addiction, compulsive gambling addiction and family violence. For the past 40 years, thousands of individuals and families have had hoped restored in their lives through our responsive treatment, intervention, prevention and education programs. We serve all individuals with Compassionate Hearts, Professional Services and in a Respectful Environment.

Areas of Specialization

  • Medical Detoxification
Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

  • Residential Treatment
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

ABOUT PROJECT TURNABOUT

Project Turnabout operates four addiction treatment facilities in Minnesota. At its main campus in Granite Falls, Minn., about 130 miles west of Minneapolis, the nonprofit offers medical detox, residential and outpatient treatment for adult men and women struggling with substance misuse and/or gambling. A 2017 SAMHSA survey indicated that 8.7 percent of rehabs in Minnesota offer treatment for gambling addiction.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment starts with an assessment with a licensed counselor in order to determine the appropriate detox options and level of service. Substance misuse treatment is gender-specific, but the gambling program is co-ed. Treatment length varies widely, with some inpatient stays averaging 28 to 45 days and others going for up 90 or 120 days. The gambling program lasts 30 days.

All treatment programs are rooted in the 12-Steps. Treatment modalities are standard. They include individual, group, and family therapy, as well as holistic offerings (e.g. fitness training and dietary management). Therapy focuses on developing coping skills, cultivating support systems, and learning how addiction relates to relationships and other issues. Daily lectures, group meetings, and other recovery formal activities are also on schedule.

The Vanguard Center for problem gambling is an independent center within Project Turnabout, but residents share all the resources available to those in the substance misuse program. Treatment follows the 12-Steps of Gamblers Anonymous and includes motivational interviewing (MI) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness, and family programming. The gambling program is only available at this location.

Offering similar treatment modalities as in residential care, the intensive outpatient program (IOP) runs for approximately eight weeks and includes a total of 25 three-hour sessions. A step-down relapse prevention program offers 16 sessions, for a total of 48 scheduled hours. Finally, a 12-week continuing care program is offered to all successful graduates.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, the treatment team includes registered and licensed nurses, dietician, personal trainer, chaplain, certified gambling counselors, and licensed mental health and drug and alcohol counselors. This place is honestly horrible. If you have an option on which treatment you need to go to please consider new visions in Alexandria. PTA discharged my man on his out date. But didn't let him graduate from there because apparently he was using while there LOL . Funny part about it is he took a piss test every Friday. And if they had any inkling that he was using they should have presented him with a piss test. It's so funny at first they said that he wasnt following program rules. And then they changed their minds as to why he didnt graduate. Staff was rude when family day came around. They treat the clients like prisoners. Just rude staff all the way around tbh. I could tell he hated it there. Any time he called he sounded in distress and fed up/sad ect which is not like him at all. Not the case with new visions in Alexandria. Everytime he has called he is happy and so talkative and loves talking about his day. He gets to go on walks and do activities during the day without feeling like he has to walk on eggshells around staff. He loves his counselor. 🤷🏻‍♀️ not sure what yall had against my man who just wanted to graduate so he can get on with his life to be with his family and kids n animals. I know my vato like the back of my hand and he would NEVER risk using in a place like pta. He has too much to lose to be doing that now. So thankful for the staff and new visions for treating my man like a human being instead of some burden such as PTA did. Maybe yall should revaulate your staff. They treat the clients like crap they claim that they need to be pushed so they can open up and get over their addiction. WRONG addicts deserve love and kind treatment and respect like anyone else regardless of what background they come from. All they want is to be treated like human beings like the rest of us. They deserve it. My man WILLINGLY wanted to get help and yall treated him like garbage and tried to set him up to fail. But guess what. Hes doing just fine and got a second chance to go to a different treatment where they value the clients and dont feel left out. Get yalls stuff together. -bambi

Education, faith based, support. Not enough exercise time. Project Turnabout saved my life. I was extremely sick when I arrived and left a completely changed person. I had no idea what addiction really was and how it was affecting my life. I highly recommend this facility and their amazing staff.

Very small but very worth the money and distance. The director from Hazelden quit Hazelden to be named head director at Project Turnabout. No much of activities outside of treatment. They soley concentrate on recovery. Which I really brlieve is better and more advanced. Having had gone to a few other Rehabs, Project Turnabout was definitely no vacation rehab. Hazelden was a country club comapred to this place. They are very strict and also they have sn extended wing. You can stay up to 120 days in which I did. It's really up to the individual. If you want to rid yourself of your addiction and learn how to stay off drugs that's soley up to you. This place is the best. They break you down and build you up. Guys would whine about it being hard but it's 120 days for the rest of your life. Rehab shouldn't be easy. Addiction isn't easy so rehab shouldn't be either.

They are determined; however, they were closed minded and did not provide enough gym time.

People working there did not understand compulsion or addiction. Mostly Social Workers dealing with life situations instead of addiction. I went to another program after relapse and learned all kinds of helpful information regarding actually not USING that I did not get from Project Turnabout.
