ABOUT PROMISES WEST LOS ANGELES

Promises West Los Angeles is a substance abuse treatment center located in suburban Mar Vista. The facility — which is halfway between Beverly Hills and the Pacific Ocean — offers residential and outpatient treatment for young adults 18 to 30 years old. Detox services are available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to Promises West Los Angeles’ website, the center pledges to offer highly individualized treatment and an intimate staff-to-client ratio. Residents typically stay for 30 days, though treatment plans vary and can last up to four months. The program is deeply rooted in the 12-Steps, as well as holistic approaches to understanding and healing from addiction.

In addition to psychiatric care, one-on-one counseling, and group therapy, the program addresses issues such as grief, loss, and trauma through experiential processes. Equine therapy, wolf therapy, and art and music therapy are offered. This includes a weekly “Rock to Recovery” group, in which professional musicians in recovery help young clients express themselves through song.

Other treatment options include neurofeedback and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Residents are also given the chance to incorporate real-world experiences into treatment via trips and activities outside of the facility, including attendance at local AA meetings.

There is an intensive, four-day family program, in addition to two weekly family groups. Each client is also assigned a family therapist, who works with their loved ones on an individual basis.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Along with physicians and a team of nurses overseeing detox, the Promises team boasts clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed family therapists, and licensed addiction counselors, according to the center’s website.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The center’s website notes the facility houses up to 18 clients at a time. Residents begin their stay in cottages dotted around the property before moving into one of two sober-living facilities on the same block. Three gourmet, chef-prepared meals are served each day.

It does a wonderful job placing patient care #1. As a for-profit company, this can be a very difficult thing to accomplish. However I have been shown time and time again with each case that the patient is always the priority as much if not more so than the nonprofit organization's I've worked for. I was hired in May 2016 to the outreach team. Two months later I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was admitted immediately to the hospital for surgery. Moved quickly to take care of everything needed from an HR standpoint. I ended up needing multiple surgeries and was in and out of the hospital for 6 months. They showed up for me in many ways including keeping my job for me when they didn't have to! Also, the benefits provided are the best I've ever had, especially the insurance. I never had a single issue with authorization from the insurance company. Cons that has been growing very rapidly and is the largest privately held residential treatment company in the United States. We have seen certain positions eliminated through this process. While there are certain growing pains with seeing wonderful people go, it is a necessary process in order to allocate resources in the best possible manner ensuring the highest portion of funds going directly to patient care. It is a wonderful organization!

Strengths: other activities such as yoga, a gym room, therapy sessions, Weaknesses: the food was not so great. I like the visitation schedule. I wont lie, its hard to deal with stuff. I like that the group sessions weren't full of too many people. I dont like big groups of people so I liked that they had smaller groups

As treatment centers go, Promises ranks at the top. I have been to a number of facilities and have received the greatest amount of knowledge and tools needed to work a serious program at Promises. They have shown me what it means to be a part of a sober community. The staff is amazing. They found a way to get this stubborn addict motivated and involved in my own treatment. They saved my life.

Was really good at making patient understand that they are responsible for themselves but that they're not worthless and that they have the support necessary to become better and hold themselves accountable. Also, emphasized that sobriety is a day to day process and that you're never cured but it doesn't have to mean the end of your life, in fact, it's just the beginning.

The was a well fit facility with a great gym and talks. However the connection with the exterior and the green areas needed improvement. It is a very good place, I got sober in only a year, after being an addict for three years.

Keep in mind this is a very structured environment. Do not be put off about the spa appearance. Community feel and family enforced service. Very set on involving everyone and was very select on who is good for patient. However, it was only an option for the more financially fortunate addicts.
