ABOUT RED RIVER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SYSTEM
Located in Grand Forks, N.D., Red River Behavioral Health System (formerly known as the Stadter Center) provides acute inpatient treatment programs for adults, adolescents, and seniors struggling from chemical dependency, mental illness, or co-occurring disorders. The facility offers an evidence-based treatment approach, which includes on-site medical detoxification and medication-assisted therapy. Stadter was acquired and renamed Red River in 2016, according to a Grand Forks Herald story, by Meridian Behavioral Health, which operates 21 Minnesota treatment facilities, including Douglas Place in East Grand Forks, across the Mississippi River.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The goal of inpatient treatment at this facility is stabilization. While the Red River website provides limited information regarding treatment modalities, Meridian's site emphasizes "positive thinking" and personalized, strength-based programming. Support for whole-person recovery is provided through nutrition and exercise.
Among several approaches utilized are cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies, and motivational interviewing. Patients are encouraged to participate a 12-step recovery process, as well. Those with a primary psychiatric disorder such as bipolar or PTSD, or who have received a dual diagnosis with addiction receive medication management support.
Programming is delivered via group counseling and educational sessions focused on relapse prevention and understanding substance abuse. Aftercare emphasizes connecting with community-based outpatient services.
Red River Behavioral Health touts its board certified medical director who specializes in general, addiction, and geriatric psychiatry and holds a Master's of Public Health. No other staff qualifications are provided on the facility's website.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. According to the Grand Forks Herald, Red River offers 70 beds and strives for friendly, accessible accommodations.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The one former client polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing was an alum of the Stadter facility. They approved of most aspects of treatment and accommodations, awarding four out of five stars each for the effectiveness of treatment, the quality of meals and nutrition, options in counseling approaches to fit individual preferences, opportunities for family participation, and the level of staff's training and experience.
The alum also reported that programming was loosely structured, offering more free time and less treatment than expected. They also identified policies regarding internet and phone use as a weakness and gave just three stars for the facility's cleanliness and upkeep. Affordability of treatment, though, received four stars. It should be noted that policies, procedures, and costs may have changed under new management.
Five Facebook reviews of the Stadter Center were split about evenly between positive and negative, averaging a rating of 2.4 out of five stars.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date was more critical of the facility than the former patient and would not recommend it to others. Their review was of the Stadter Center. While agreeing with the alum that meals and nutrition were strengths, counseling options, holistic offerings, and pricing received just two stars apiece. The respondent noted they did not participate in family programming and gave the overall effectiveness of treatment a three-star rating.
Red River Behavioral Health System accepts a number of private insurance plans and staff will assist patients with verifying coverage, according to the Meridian website. Financing is also available through a partnership with Prosper Healthcare Lending.
The September 2016 Grand Forks Herald story references a history of regulation violations at Stadter Center, while also quoting a Red River vice president who acknowledged these concerns and described Meridian's acquisition as "a real opportunity to come in and relaunch it with a new brand."
