Sunflower Landing in Tutwiler, Miss., offers residential care for adolescents seeking treatment for substance abuse, addiction, and co-occurring disorders. This makes it one of the 26 (29.2 percent) of Mississippi treatment centers that offer treatment for adolescents. Sunflower Landing is operated by health care provider Region One Mental Health Center that serves residents in Coahoma, Quitman, Tallahatchie and Tunica counties. Region One Mental Health Center also offers outpatient therapy, support groups, detoxification, and aftercare services.


Long-term residential care at Sunflower Landing focuses on three aspects of care: the biochemical roots of addiction, breaking destructive thinking pattern, and cultivating spirituality. The facility focuses on a combination of evidence-based treatments and holistic care options. It is one of 26 (29.2 percent) of facilities in Mississippi that offer treatment options for adolescents.

The holistic treatment is focused on creating a healthier, nurturing environment for clients. The facility is in a nature area with outdoor areas used for services and relaxation. Sunflower Landing emphasizes pet therapy with the company's horses, cats, and dogs.

Sunflower Landing also uses evidence-based counseling methods including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Clients also participate in spiritually based 12-step programming for long-term and short-term benefits.

While in treatment, clients continue to pursue academics through the affiliated program. Clients work toward a high school diploma or GED, prepare for college entrance exams, and complete community service hours.

Though has not yet received reviews from alumni to date, on Google Sunflower Landing has an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars from four reviewers.[1] In the only review with written commentary, Gladys wrote negative things about her experience with the staff in 1998. However, this feedback isn’t likely comparable to current experiences. On Facebook, where the facility can manage its own page, Sunflower Landing has an average rating of five out of five stars from 25 reviews at the time of this writing.[2] Staff received most of the positive feedback with descriptions of “the sweetest” and a “great support system.”


The two loved ones responding to a poll to date gave five out of five star ratings to the facility's admission and discharge procedures, whether it was worth the cost, and its accommodations. They gave four or five stars for its counseling options, affordability, and level of family participation. "They help the patients and are seriously invented in their rehabilation," one anonymous reviewer wrote.


The Sunflower Landing program bases the cost of treatment on clients’ income and is one of 64 (71.9 percent) of facilities in the state that use a sliding fee scale.
