ABOUT RELATE COUNSELING CENTER
Relate Counseling Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit mental health and chemical dependency treatment center in Minnetonka, Minn., about 30 minutes outside of Minneapolis. Priding itself as the only nonprofit, state-licensed counseling center that caters to children, teens, young adults, and parents in Western Minneapolis, Relate provides a range of outpatient-based services, including assessments, medication management, psychotherapeutic counseling, and psychoeducational groups.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Before beginning treatment, clients undergo an initial diagnostic assessmentto help clinicians establish an appropriate treatment plan. When a need for medication is determined, clients begin meeting regularly with a facility psychiatrist who monitors the process. Clients can also be referred by staff for psychiatric, psychological, and chemical dependency assessments.
Children, teens, and adults facing depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, trauma, and gender identity receive an individualized treatment plan to address these and other personal issues. Families and couples undergoing divorce, separation or experiencing conflict and communication issues work alongside with therapists to build trust and improve communication. Sessions are 45 minutes in length and are scheduled on a weekly basis.
In addition to its counseling and medication services, Relate Counseling Center delivers a variety of educational classes for children, teens, and adults. These include a monthly drug and alcohol education class for high school boys, a mindfulness program for children between the ages of seven and 12, a peer support group for high school aged girls, a 12-week parenting course, and groups that make use of evidence-based concepts in supporting participants skills development and emotional regulation.
The nonprofit also works with children in 28 different schools across six school districts.
