Located just minutes from the Pacific Ocean and the California coast, Rosewood Santa Monica offers specialized outpatient treatment and transitional living programs for adolescents, teens, and adults struggling with an eating disorder. The Santa Monica location offers treatment to clients from Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and the surrounding area. The organization has three other locations throughout other parts of California, including Rosewood Ranch which offers inpatient treatment.

To be admitted, clients should contact the facility directly to speak with an intake coordinator who will complete a comprehensive one-on-one assessment to determine the necessary level of treatment.

Rosewood’s treatment program takes a holistic, evidence-based, and individualized approach to recovery. The program builds off of treatment techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other co-occurring disorders, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational approaches and interviewing techniques, and 12-step programming.

Throughout treatment, clients receive individual psychotherapy, group therapy- including support group meetings, mindfulness training, nutrition support, and animal assisted therapy. Levels of care offered at the Santa Monica location includes extended day treatment, partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) in addition to transitional living.

Extended day treatment is intended for clients who are medically stable but have severely impaired functioning due to eating disorders and co-occurring symptoms. This program includes 11 hours of structured programming but clients return to their homes at night.

The PHP is a less intensive but still highly structured program for clients that includes supervised meals, meal processing, and meal planning along with individual and group counseling. PHP is an ideal option for those just starting their recovery journey or those who are transitioning from a less intensive level of treatment.

IOP is held Monday through Saturday evening, consisting of four-hour sessions each day. Sessions include specialized groups, nutritional meal planning, supervised meals, meal processing and educational presentations. Additionally, IOP clients will participate in group psychotherapy, body image group, gentle and mindful eating, process groups, and experiential therapies.

The transitional living program is offered for adults only and is located in two supervised homes in the Los Angeles area. Each resident receives care from a therapist, recovery tools, community bonding, one-on-one support from resident advisors, and job search support.

The adolescent and teen treatment program follows similar treatment methods as the adult programs. Families are considered to be critical components to recovery and are included in the treatment plan through a weekly family group session and family-centered experiential treatment.

The treatment team includes a psychiatrist, physician, master’s level eating disorder therapist, addiction specialist, registered dietitian, and nursing staff.

There is currently limited information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. The two transitional living homes are located within the Los Angeles area and are for adults only.

On the facility’s Facebook page, which it can manage, there is an overall rating of 4.3 out of five stars based on 37 total reviews.[1] Reviewer B.F. gave one star and felt that their condition worsened while in treatment at Rosewood. B.F. wrote, “Avoid all Rosewood centers at all costs....I've been to so many treatment centers, and Rosewood is the poorest of them all. They deserve every bad review they receive, and ideally be stripped of their accreditation. Terrible in every single way.” In contrast, another Facebook reviewer, J.S., wrote that they would definitely recommend Rosewood’s treatment program. J.S gave five stars and wrote, “I spent about 4 months at Rosewood and would recommend this program to anyone seeking treatment. They have your best interest at heart (even when it doesn't feel that way).”

On the facility’s Yelp page, there is an overall rating of 2.5 out of five stars based on nine total reviews.[2] Reviewer A.B. gave the facility five stars and wrote, “Their program saved my life. They are very tenitive and helpful. My therapist was extreemly motivating and really connected with me.” In contrast, another reviewer, D.F., felt that their child was worse after receiving treatment at the facility. D.F gave one star and wrote, “I feel this facility is a sham. I feel that they do not have the calibar of staff that they state. I think you should personaly check their therapists and programs before placing your love one who is probably in a unstable mental shape at the time. They actually made my child worse than when she started.”

On the facility’s Google page, there is an overall rating of three out of five stars based on three total reviews.[3] Reviews were similarly mixed, with one reviewer leaving scathing commentary, and another praising the facility. The third reviewer did not leave any accompanying commentary.
