Safe Landing Recovery Philosophy
Safe Landing is dedicated to providing a place of healing for young people affected by addiction while providing guidance toward a brighter future. By focusing on the unique needs of teenagers recovering from substance abuse, Safe Landings addresses addiction at its root, preventing long term hardships.
Areas of Specialization
Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT SAFE LANDING RECOVERY
Safe Landing Recovery is an addiction treatment center in Miami Gardens, Fla., that’s dedicated to serving teens between the ages of 13 and 17 struggling with substance use and co-occurring psychiatric mental health disorders.
One of just 113 (16.9 percent of) programs in the state with a residential program, one of 135 (20.2 percent of) that’s dedicated exclusively to teens Safe Landing Recovery also offers partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programming to facilitate a teen’s ongoing attendance at school as they receive the care that they need.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, programming at Safe Landing Recovery is designed to identify any underlying factors that may be contributing towards an individual’s addictive behaviors. Amongst others, co-occurring issues such as trauma, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), and mood disorders are also treated here.
All clients undergo an initial substance abuse and mental health assessment upon admission to help clinicians recommend an appropriate level of care. When more supervision and structure is required for a successful early recovery, clients may be referred for residential care, a program whose curriculum involves evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Seeking Safety.
At its core, residential treatment offers group, individual, and family counseling sessions (groups are gender-separate) and classes and workshops focused on relapse prevention, coping, and emotional regulation skills. Programming is rounded out with exercise, creative arts therapies, recreational activities, and weekly field trips to museums, movies, bowling, and sporting events. One of just 260 (38.9 percent of) facilities in the state to do so, Safe Landing offers clients assistance with job skills training, educational planning, and resume drafting. Where needed, medication management is also available.
Once they’ve completed residential treatment, clients may transition, or “step down”, to a less restrictive level of care. One of just 164 (24.6 percent of) such programs in the state, the PHP at Safe Landing offers five days a week, five hours daily of virtual G.E.D. prep, SAT and ACT prep, and college prep courses. One of just 287 (43.0 percent of) programs of its kind statewide, this IOP offers three to five days a week of two to three hours of counseling and education a day.
Staff include licensed clinicians and master’s level therapists who have experience and training working with young individuals facing mental health challenges.
