Safe Landing Recovery Philosophy
Safe Landing is dedicated to providing a place of healing for young people affected by addiction while providing guidance toward a brighter future. By focusing on the unique needs of teenagers recovering from substance abuse, Safe Landings addresses addiction at its root, preventing long term hardships.
Areas of Specialization
Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.

ABOUT SAFE LANDING RECOVERY
Safe Landing Recovery provides a full continuum of treatment programs for adolescents (ages 13 to 17) struggling with chemical dependency, as well as co-occurring psychiatric concerns. Based in Miami Gardens, Fla., Safe Landing Recovery offers a residential program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and intensive outpatient program (IOP). The facility also offers outpatient-based counseling and a specialized residential summer program. The facility does not provide on-site medical detoxification.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients may undergo an initial substance abuse and mental health assessment to determine an appropriate level of care. If supervision and structure is necessary to acquire and sustain sobriety, clients may be referred to the treatment provider's residential program. According to the facility's website, programming involves evidence-based treatment approaches, specifically cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
Safe Landing Recovery's CBT-focused approach is designed to identify the underlying factors that may contribute to addictive behavior. The facility's website states that Safe Landing Recovery is equipped to address these underlying causes, which may include sexual trauma, depression, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), and other mental health disorders.
During residential treatment, clients may attend group, individual, and family counseling sessions to identify and process these underlying factors. According to the facility's website, group counseling sessions are age- and gender-appropriate. The facility may also utilize medication management to alleviate psychiatric symptoms.
In addition to counseling sessions, residential may attend educational classes and workshops on relapse prevention, improving coping skills, and regulating emotions. To promote healthy, sober living, residents also participate in exercise sessions, creative arts therapy, therapeutic recreation, and regular weekly outings, which may include trips to the movies, museums, bowling, and sporting events. Safe Landing Recovery also provides employment skills assistance, educational planning, and resume-building throughout treatment.
Once a client completes residential treatment, Safe Landing Recovery may encourage clients to transition into a less-intensive level of care. Safe Landing Recovery's partial hospitalization program (PHP) involves five days of weekly programming, five hours per day. PHP may incorporate virtual schooling, including G.E.D. prep, SAT and ACT prep, and college prep courses. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) involves three to five days of weekly treatment, consisting of two to three hours of daily programming. IOP entails group, family, and individual counseling, as well as educational classes.
According to the facility's website, Safe Landing Recovery employs a "world-class staff of behavioral therapists, physicians and drug abuse experts."
