ABOUT SAMARITAN VILLAGE

Located along the eastern base of the Catskill Mountains approximately 90 miles north of New York City, the picturesque Ellenville, N.Y. is home to one of the 50 Samaritan Village treatment center locations throughout the state. The nonprofit organization provides treatment and recovery services for men, women, and families struggling with substance abuse. The facility also includes specialized programming for the elderly, homeless, and veterans.

Samaritan Village, as a network offers, medically assisted detox, residential services, outpatient services, and transitional housing, however the Ellenville location serves only as a residential treatment center.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at the Ellenville center is highly structured and uses a combination of individual counseling, group therapy, education, job preparedness training, and assistance with family reunification.

While some programs are gender-specific, the majority of Samaritan Village’s residential programming is co-ed. There is no standard duration for treatment, and length of stay is determined according to each individuals needs.

Methadone maintenance for opioid addiction may also be prescribed.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Few details regarding staff credentials are available, but all of Samaritan Village’s substance abuse treatment programs are licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The two alumni polled on the staff's level of support both gave perfect five star ratings and another alum listed the "caring counselors" as a strength of the facility.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Accommodations are dormitory-style: rooms are shared, and each guest is given a bed, closet, and dresser. Visitation at Samaritan Village is by appointment only, and mobile phone use is permitted for participants who are working or actively engaged in a job search.

He went on to say, "Some of the case manager treat people like garbage screaming at them and trying to get people upset when all they looking for is understanding after coming all broken from the streets."

Staff is a loose cannon... They need to tighten these two facilities up! Few qualified staff members to help patients along. Many crooked staff members getting away with too much.

The place is beatiful. The people are great but the staff are useless. The kitchen over work the clients while the two cheff on payroll sit in a office and scream at people. They have you work doing everything and you dont get time back when you a PM kitchen worker. Some of the case manager treat people like garbage screaming at them and trying to get people upset when all they looking for is understanding after coming all broken from the streets. The structure of the program is a mess and needs to be fix. Favoritism is given to the people that are corrupt cause they make the staff feel like they back on the streets. I guess overall is good program to keep you away from coming to a program but not a good program to quit drugs.

Counseling was a strength of the facility. Groups were a downfall of the facility. Family being involved in treatment.

Samaritan Village as an agency has over 28 different programs and serves a diverse population in the NYC area including an upstate residential treatment facility. For those looking for change in their lives they have had many stories of success through their programs. Well balanced services, clinical, vocational, psychological.
