Santa Fe Recovery Center is one of the 20 (13 percent) facilities in New Mexico that provides residential treatment for adults dealing with substance abuse. Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and outpatient programs (OP) are both also available. In addition, the facility is amongst the just six (3.9 percent) of non-hospital treatment centers in the state where detox services are available on-site.

The admissions process includes a pre-admissions screening, financial process, and medical exam. Those needing admission into the residential unit interview with the intake coordinator and head nurse.

Detoxification is available for clients in need. A social detox model is used to treat clients along with 24/7 monitoring. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) utilizing Suboxone is also available for those struggling with opioid addiction.

Clients typically stay 30 days in the organization's residential program, where they will participate in group counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, 12-step meetings, and family workshops.

Outpatient treatment and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are evidence-based and incorporate individual and group therapy, 12-Step meetings, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Clients also participate in anger management, health and fitness activities, grief and trauma counseling, and family education.

Santa Fe Recovery Center's website states that it offers a 1:6 counselor-to-client ratio and a 1:12 direct care staff-to-client ratio. Staff members include a medical doctor, masters-level therapists and art therapists, and licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselors. In New Mexico, 97.8 percent of all substance abuse treatment centers have higher education requirements for staff.

The six alumni reviews submitted to to date were mostly positive with a few exceptions. Former client E.S. referred to treatment as "fail proof" and staff as "Amazing" and "caring." "The Counselors truly had their clients best interest at heart," E.S. wrote. "A day never went by that we weren't being encouraged." She provided four-star ratings for holistic offerings and extracurricular activities, and five-star ratings for level of staff support and the visitation policies. An anonymous alum cited "active listening, no judgement," and "great staff" as facility strengths." While V.M. agreed with the staff friendliness, this former client felt the outpatient program needed some improvement.

Two other alumni polled by felt the facility was were critical of the facility's physical condition and the effectiveness of treatment. J.P. wrote: "Did not feel safe. Don't feel I got the 1-on-1 that I needed." Both critical alumni gave the staff level of support just two out of five stars, and both gave cleanliness and and visitation policies only one-star ratings.

On Google, six reviewers gave an average 4.5 out of five stars.[1] Reviewers shared highly positive experiences, and referred to the staff as "absolutely wonderful" and "very helpful and respectful." Alum M.A.W. added, "I learned tools to take with me to use on the outside."

On the facility's Facebook page, which its staff does have the ability to monitor, all seven reviewers provided perfect, five- out of five-star ratings.[2]

As of this writing, the three reviews received by from loved ones were also mixed. One anonymous loved one described the facility as “well maintained” and staff as “great,” giving four stars for admissions & discharge procedures and counseling options, as well as perfect five-star ratings for the amount of family participation and staff's level of experience and training. This individual commented that the facility offered "a wide variety of services to aid in the recovery of the individual attending this particular rehab center," and strongly agreed that she would recommend the center to others.

Another reviewer felt that "good classes" were a strength but that the center "should improve their facilities." Still, this loved one provided four-star ratings for holistic offerings and counseling options, and indicated feeling that treatment was worth the cost.

Though no current or former staff members have responded to a survey at this time, reviews on third-party sites were mixed. On Glassdoor, two individuals generated ratings of two stars and five stars.[3] "Great Staff. Excellent Program," a former intern wrote. However, the other reviewer, despite enjoying the experience of working with clients, noted difficulty with management.

The facility received even higher praise on Indeed, where five reviewers offered a 4.2 out of five-star average rating.[4] A program assistant noted that the workplace was "fast paced," and added: "The staff is client centered and compassionate. The executive team is equally as caring and treats everyone with respect."

Santa Fe Recovery Center accepts most private insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Behavioral Health, and Cigna. Private payments and financial counseling is available. A $10 drug screen charge is assessed at admission.

This place is the pits. The staff plays favorites and are extremely rude.

While the staff are friendly here, the outpatient suboxone program is chaotic and disorganized and the UA kits are frequently defective. Need to improve operations and services in the outpatient programs to be as good as the inpatient treatment

The groups are well organized and run by highly trained clinicians. If one is entering the IOP section of this program please be advised that there is a 25 dollar assessment fee along with a 300 dollar administrative fee for those on medicaid. Make sure to get a referral from your doctor and a prior authorization either from your doctor or SFRC. Programs that work with those on MAT can be hard to find. This facility is doing the Santa Fe community a huge service by being ahead of the game and offering different forms of treatment that could be considered much more progressive that what is most commonly available.

Do not chose this place. It is filthy, gross. It had bed bugs, was closed down for a bit. No 1 on 1. No outside activity. No connection to outside world except once a week for an hour.

Dirty. Did not feel safe. Don't feel I got the 1-on-1 that I needed. Would not go back or recommend that dump!

They were absolutely amazing. Amazing caring staff. The counselors truly had their clients best interest at heart. A day never went by that we weren't being encouraged. Of course, we are a huge part of our own success, but with the tools and support they gave us, in my opinion, it's fail proof!
