ABOUT SEAFIELD AMITYVILLE OUTPATIENT

Seafield Amityville is an outpatient center in Amityville, N.Y. that offers medication assisted treatment services for adult men and women. One of just 62 traditional outpatient programs in New York state, Seafield Amityville is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As an organization, Seafield runs 14 recovery homes for men and women across Long Island, and, at its main location in Westhampton Beach, a 100-bed detox and residential program for adults and teens aged 16 and older.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment services at Seafield are based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous; 74.5 percent of statewide facilities approach recovery using the 12 Steps. Seafield facilities also form part of the 51.7 percent of facilities statewide that offer Naltrexone for clients experiencing withdrawal.

Along with medication, the outpatient facility runs a number of specialized groups, including a men’s group, women’s group, “power and control” group, relapse prevention groups, parenting groups, professional’s group, and DWI group. Psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring are also available here.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Seafield Amityville is led by an executive director who’s a licensed master’s social worker (LMSW) and a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor (CASAC). The facility is also one of just 243 (28.9 percent) of facilities in the state that’s accredited by the Joint Commission.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The sole alum of Seafield Amityville polled by Rehabs.com to date had mostly positive feedback on their experience. While they felt “lonely,” the anonymous alum gave the facility either three or four out of five stars for over a dozen areas of treatment, including affordability, cleanliness, and staff training and experience. “It was nice,” the alum commented. “Good to work out and have attention.”

Seafield Amityville also has a highly mixed 2.7 out of five stars based on 10 Google reviews as of this writing.[1] Participants agreed that, while some staff were “great,” others were “ignorant and rude.” “Some of the counselors are great but majority of the people working in higher positions are not fit to work in the field,” an anonymous one-star reviewer wrote in a fairly representative statement.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

A family member was less enthusiastic, criticizing the facility for its “poor monitoring of clients substance abuse” and “poor communication with family.” Awarding just one or two stars for most areas evaluated (see above), they warned others: “If you as the family are relying on a treatment center to monitor use or treat the family as a whole this is not the right fit.”

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, Seafield Amityville accepts most insurances and offers a sliding fee scale for those in need.

Poor monitoring of clients substance abuse, poor communication with family (even when their is a signed consent in place, only able to see casac not a higher trained professional. The bottom line is also that if an addict wants to get clean they will. If you as the family are relying on a treatment center to monitor use or treat the family as a whole this is not the right fit.
