Serenity House Treatment Center Philosophy

Counseling, education and participation in 12-Step recovery programs are the cornerstones of treatment at Serenity House. The residential rehab takes a
bio-psych-social approach to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, and focuses on teaching and supporting the lifestyle changes necessary to live a life free of substance abuse and chemical dependency. The facility is committed to helping its clients restructure and reclaim their lives, so they can give up their addictive behaviors and build a solid foundation for life-long recovery.

Areas of Specialization

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

  • Aftercare Support
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

ABOUT SERENITY HOUSE TREATMENT CENTER

Serenity House Treatment Center, in operation by Central Peninsula Hospital (CPH), sits on 40 acres in Soldotna, Alaska, about 150 miles south of Anchorage. Offering counseling, education, and participation in the 12 Steps, the facility runs both residential and outpatient programs for adults. Detox is not available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process is heavily based on the 12-step program. The facility uses trauma-informed treatment practices to address trauma-related conditions.

The staff focuses on addressing clients’ traumas and relationships. Ultimately, Serenity House aims to help adults make the lifestyle changes necessary for a long-term recovery, and uses a bio-psych-social and spiritual approach to do so.

Programming is residential, and successful graduates may receive additional follow-up assistance through enrolling in either the facility’s intensive outpatient (IOP) program or outpatient groups. The center is one of 47 (52.8 percent) of Alaska treatment facilities to offer IOP. Depending on their needs, IOP clients may attend nine or more hours of therapeutic programming each week, with groups that cover mindfulness, interpersonal skills, relapse prevention, and more.

Special groups and programs are designed specifically to address co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. Only 47.2 percent of the facilities in the state support treatment for co-occurring disorders.

Across all programs, Serenity House encourages family involvement and aftercare. Aftercare services are generally managed through local Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings and other community resources.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility employs certified counselors to treat clients. They are qualified to provide individual and family counseling sessions weekly. The lone alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave five out of five stars for the staff's support. The facility is also one of 29 (32.6 percent) of facilities in the state certified by the Joint Commission.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Serenity House Treatment Center is co-ed and has 12 beds available, making it a small facility, as most residential facilities in the state have a higher median of 16 residential beds available.
