ABOUT SHORELINE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES

Located in Conway, S.C., Shoreline Behavioral Health Services provides substance abuse treatment to adult residents of Horry County. The facility’s comprehensive offerings include one of the state's only 52 (48.1 percent) DUI programs, as well as one of the 55 (50.9 percent) women-only residential treatment programs in South Carolina. The facility also offers co-ed outpatient treatment.

Additionally, this center is one of the state's only 58 (53.7 percent) treatment facilities with HIV testing and education. The facility also offers treatment for gambling and specialized programs for recovering medical professionals.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Prior to enrolling at Shoreline, first-time clients undergo a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment. This process, which may take several hours, is used to create individualized care plans. Shoreline’s residential treatment program, the Women’s Recovery Center, is designed specifically for adult women who are at risk of losing their children to foster care.

The center provides a healthy and stable environment for women as they undergo treatment to gain necessary life skills while receiving peer and professional support services. Once participants graduate from the center, they may enroll in Shoreline’s intensive outpatient and aftercare programs for women.

Shoreline also offers co-ed outpatient treatment. In addition to receiving individual counseling and participating in family therapy, outpatient clients attend several group sessions each week. These meetings focus on addiction education, recovery, and relapse prevention. IOP groups meet three times a week for three hours each time, and OP groups meet from two to eight hours per week.

In aftercare, clients meet less frequently (typically once per week) and focus mainly on long-term strategies for maintaining sobriety. Recovery services are also available for youth, including family support and education on peer pressure and healthy ways to communicate. An employee assistance program is also available.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Shoreline employs administrative staff, counselors, case managers, prevention staff, and financial coordinators. There does not appear to be medical staff on site or employed by the facility. Of the two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date, one provided a perfect five-star rating for the staff's level of experience and training, while the other provided a three-star rating for the level of staff support.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided on Shoreline's website or elsewhere regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. One loved one indicated a client stayed at the facility for 61 to 90 days. A R.O.P.E.S. course is also offered to promote team-building, trust, and problem-solving skills.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Three alumni to date gave Shoreline mostly negative reviews. Each of the three alumni rated its accommodations and amenities only one star. In comments, the alumni reported upon financial obstacles and poor service and treatment. Alum F.K. wrote, "Insufficient staff to client ratio; long waits; limited treatment." Another added, "Would not reccommend this facility to anyone who has drug or alcohol issues."

On Google at the time of this writing, reviews were polarized, indicated by a 3.1 out of five-star average rating based on 22 users.[1] Feedback on the quality of care was quite mixed, with one former client representatively writing, "Very kind & compassionate people." However, several other alumni reported poor administration and unhelpful treatment. Alum Don representatively wrote, "Shoreline cannot follow simple instructions on State issued documents, and a substance abuse counselor with the proper credentials, will not, or cannot sign it." Several comments also noted that the facility was extremely understaffed.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of two anonymous loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date, one gave Shoreline average ratings of three out of five stars in almost every metric measured, including holistic treatment offerings, counseling options, level of family involvement, and aftercare. The other rated the facility mostly four and five stars in similar metrics, offering five stars for counseling options and four stars for holistic treatment offerings and family participation. This individual further added, "The staff treat everyone great and did not talk down to anyone."

WHAT STAFF SAY

Though Rehabs.com has not yet received feedback from facility staff at the time of this writing, six current and former staffers on Indeed gave the facility a 3.2 out of five-star average rating.[2] While reviewers noted enjoying the content of their work, many echoed the alumni remarks about high turnover rates and understaffing issues. "Non-existent management," a former employee wrote. Similarly, the sole Glassdoor reviewer to date provided a three-star rating, commenting, "Poor supervision and management for supervisors."[3]

FINANCING

Shoreline Behavioral Health Services is a nonprofit organization and offers sliding scale fees to clients who qualify. Medicaid and some insurance plans are also accepted.
