Operating since 1975, Siena/Francis House is Omaha’s largest homeless shelter, providing food, clothing, and case management outreach to men and women in need. The organization’s Miracles Treatment Center offers residential treatment to individuals over the age of 19, and focuses on substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, as well as gambling addiction, eating disorders, and other addictions. Detox services are not offered on-site. Aftercare services is available through the facility.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The treatment process at Siena/Francis House’s Miracles Treatment Center begins with identifying homeless clients and helping them get off of the streets. Siena/Francis offers overnight shelter services to homeless clients as a way of providing temporary relief. While they are in the overnight shelters, Siena/Francis House encourages them to seek further treatment. Anyone in the overnight shelters can be considered for residential treatment through the Miracles Treatment Center.
To be admitted to Miracles, clients must commit to a minimum of 120 days of residential treatment, participate in job training programs, and provide 40 hours of weekly service to the Siena/Francis House shelter. Clients must also be able to maintain their sobriety during their stay in any of the facilities.
The recovery program is based on the 12-steps principles, and utilizes multiple trauma and evidence-based treatment modalities. These include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and grief recovery counseling. Miracles Treatment Center uses a three phase process to facilitate client treatments.
Clients work their way through three phases of treatment while in residential treatment. Phase One covers the first 90 days of treatment. Clients attend individual therapy as well as group counseling sessions. Clients are also enrolled in the job training program and begin to satisfy the requirements of the program such as attending educational sessions. In addition, clients begin attending daily 12-step group meetings during the week, and must find a 12-steps sponsor. During this phase, family counseling is also available.
Phase Two covers the client’s transition back into the community by enrolling in school or gaining employment while continuing treatment. Since the amount of time needed for this changes based on each client, there is not a time limit for this phase. However, clients are required to make progress toward completing their treatment. Clients begin the process of establishing sober living lifestyle requirements including finding employment, continuing treatment, and preparing to transition out of the program.
In Phase Three, clients fully establish their aftercare plans including having a consistent job and being involved in community-based treatment programs. If the client needs living arrangements at the end of the program, he or she can stay up to an additional month to finalize the arrangements. Once the client transitions out of the facility, aftercare counseling begins to help them maintain a sober lifestyle. There is also an alumni group for those that have completed the program.
