Areas of Specialization

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

  • Individual Therapy
This term describes one-on-one therapy, in which a patient and trained counselor, social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist meets privately with a patient to discuss challenges related to lifestyle, work, family and romantic relationships that may have contributed to the development of an addiction.

STRC treats addiction according to the disease model of addiction. It also takes a spiritual approach to treatment although it is not associated with a religion. Clients participate in different therapies designed to promote physical and spiritual well-being.

During treatment, clients participate in a managed schedule of counseling and recreational therapies. Individual and group counseling is a main part of treatment. Clients also participate in 12-step meetings.

Family participation is encouraged throughout treatment. Counseling services for families are available as needed. Clients are encouraged to rebuild family relationships whenever possible.

Aftercare is available free of charge for one year to graduates of the program, as are two recovery retreats. A 30- to 60-day continuing care program is available to alumni who need a more “gradual reintegration” into the community.

STRC is located in a redwood forest in Northern California. The rustic setting extends to accommodations, as clients reside in cabin-style housing with shared bedrooms. Amenities include an exercise room and opportunities to hike in the forest or swim in the nearby Eel River. The facility boasts ubiquitous wood furnishings, a giant rock-lined fire pit, and even a smoke lodge.

They saved my husband! Completely compassionate staff. Gentle yet stern. I am just so pleased. My husband recalls his time there fondly and is now nearly two years sober! I just can't say enough good things about this place. As someone who has worked in rehab facilities, this is what a place for recovery looks like. Thank you, Swinging Trees

I am still clean 19 years later. This has changed my life and that of hundreds of others. A spiritual setting, intensive groups, addiction education, family counseling, sweat-lodge, massage therapist available, wholesome food. Owned and staffed by recovering people.
