ABOUT SPARC – SPOKANE ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTERS

Founded 50 years ago and located in a residential neighborhood in southwestern Spokane, the nonprofit Spokane Addiction Recovery Centers (SPARC) offers on-site medical monitoring plus residential and outpatient treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, specifically for indigent men and women.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

SPARC’s website states that treatment is individualized, evidence-based, and multi-dimensional. Treatment includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and motivational enhancement therapy. Alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com indicate that treatment uses the 12-Steps.

Outpatient treatment is available at both standard and intensive levels, and services include DUI assessment, abuse treatment, and alcohol & drug information school. Mental health services include counseling and psychotherapy, medication supervision, and case management.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no information provided by SPARC regarding its treatment staff. Seven people polled by Rehabs.com rated staff’s level of experience and training an average 3.9 out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

No information is available on SPARC's accommodations. 13 reviewers polled by Rehabs.com to date rated SPARC’s accommodations and amenities 3.8 out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The 12 alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing rated SPARC’s treatment effectiveness an average 3.5 out of five stars, with ten rating it a high four and five stars and two rating it only one or two stars. Three alumni rated its affordability the highest at four out of five stars.and its connectivity lowest at 2.5 stars.

Comments indicate that the facility does good work, despite being overburdened. K.R. wrote: “The ‘amenities’ were few (no internet back then, nor alternative treatments, exercise equipment, etc.), but the program was solid addiction recovery and prepared us to reintegrate as seamlessly as possible.” Linda, another alum, wrote: “You are held accountable by the other clients with a family atmosphere.”

Yet at least four alumni mentioned that the facility seemed overcrowded, proving little time for individual attention. An anonymous reviewer commented: “Too many patients,” and another wrote that despite the “caring staff,” there was a “lack of resources and time for each individuals's needs.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com gave mostly positive feedback for SPARC. Both would recommend treatment at the facility, and they gave four out of five stars for its family participation and treatment effectiveness. One did echo alumni complaints, writing: “Too many clients at one time." Another felt that the rules on phone and Internet usage were too strict.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Rehabs.com has received two reviews from anonymous staff members, each giving four or five out of five stars to SPARC's family programming, affordability, counseling options, and the staff’s level of training and experience. One highlighted the “Awesome staff,” while the other noted certain aspects of the treatment process. “Not able to use faster acting naloxone shots due to no qualified pharmacy,” they wrote.

FINANCING

SPARC receives public funding from the State of Washington and Spokane County. Medicaid is accepted. Six alumni polled by Rehabs.com reported using state or federal insurance, and seven other reviewers gave an average rating of 4.14 out of five stars for the facility’s affordability.

DONT NOT GO TO SPARC! The staff was terrible except for the Intake woman. Her job is to be nice so she can get people to come there. One nurse is sketchy! They say staff is there 24/7 but that\'s not true because all sorts of shady stuff goes on in there and they don\'t care. What they right about their rehab is not true. There are so many better ones out there!!

Inexpensive. Quick entrance. A lot of court ordered participants. Hard for people who want help. Just hard when people are there court ordered and those that want good help have people who don't take it serious.

They keep you busy. Too many patients. It was a decent experience, I have had no problems staying clean but, you only get out what you put in, you have to work to recover.

BL

This place is the worst treatment center and the first treatment center I ever attended. They DO NOT give you your medication that is prescribed to you ( PSYCHE MEDS, IBUPROFEN) . I got kicked out for disrespecting the staff (that claim is completely absurd I had 5 other witnesses that saw the whole incident as it happened) because I asked for my ibuprofen that was prescribed to me by my doctor. There are 2 great staff members there that were awesome, so thank you to those two women for being amazing despite the terrible place you work (hopefully you find somewhere better someday). BUT everything happens for a reason and I ended up going to THUNDERBIRD treatment center in Seattle and it was AMAZING, great staff, counselors, and WONDERFUL program thanks to THUNDERBIRD treatment center I am 146 days clean today I will recommend TTC to anyone over SPARC any day.
