ABOUT SSM HEALTH DEPAUL HOSPITAL - ST. LOUIS ST. VINCENT’S BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER
Located in Bridgeton, Mo., a suburb of Greater St. Louis, SSM Health DePaul Hospital’s St. Vincent's Behavioral Health Center offers behavioral, mental health, and addiction treatment services for adults and youth. One of several SSM Health facilities throughout Missouri and Illinois, this DePaul Hospital runs inpatient services for those three years or older, and outpatient services for those ages 12 and up. It is amongst the 45 (15.7%) Missouri substance abuse facilities with adolescent programming.
For adults 18 and older, this is one of the only 30 (10.5%) treatment centers in the state to offer medical detoxification and stabilization services to treat withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and/or opiates.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The team at SSM Health works with each client to identify treatment that fits individual needs, as per the hospital’s webpage. The goal of treatment, especially for younger individuals, is to help patients understand their problems and find effective ways to cope.
Adults seeking acute inpatient psychiatric care must have a disorder that threatens their physical well-being or the safety of others. While there is no typical length of stay, adults may use treatment services to the extent that 24-hour monitoring is necessary. Inpatient care features one-on-one consultations with a psychiatrist, goal setting, education, and aftercare. Throughout their treatment stays, inpatient clients also receive psychiatric monitoring.
Those who don’t qualify for inpatient treatment may attend brief outpatient sessions, which require a minimum of three days’ attendance per week. They’ll also have access to consultations with a psychiatrist, case management and crisis intervention services, life skills training, and aftercare.
In a supportive, structured setting, the hospital’s Youth Inpatient Program provides substance use disorder education, psychiatrist-led treatment, and group therapy for teens and children ages three to 12. As of 2016, 2.83 percent of adolescents ages 12 to 17 in the state of Missouri needed but did not receive treatment at a specialty facility for illicit drug use.
There is also an intensive family program designed specifically for teens with significant mood and behavioral changes. In this four- to five-week program, teens must attend a minimum of three days of weekly programming, held daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and parents one day per week. Dinner is included in programming.
DePaul Hospital’s behavioral health team consists of a medical doctor, a registered nurse, licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), and other qualified professionals. Indeed, 98.8 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Missouri have continuing education requirements for their staff. In their Rehabs.com surveys, three reviewers collectively found the staff and therapists were caring, friendly, knowledgeable, and well-trained.
