Located in Bridgeton, Mo., a suburb of Greater St. Louis, SSM Health DePaul Hospital’s St. Vincent's Behavioral Health Center offers behavioral, mental health, and addiction treatment services for adults and youth. One of several SSM Health facilities throughout Missouri and Illinois, this DePaul Hospital runs inpatient services for those three years or older, and outpatient services for those ages 12 and up. It is amongst the 45 (15.7%) Missouri substance abuse facilities with adolescent programming.

For adults 18 and older, this is one of the only 30 (10.5%) treatment centers in the state to offer medical detoxification and stabilization services to treat withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and/or opiates.

The team at SSM Health works with each client to identify treatment that fits individual needs, as per the hospital’s webpage. The goal of treatment, especially for younger individuals, is to help patients understand their problems and find effective ways to cope.

Adults seeking acute inpatient psychiatric care must have a disorder that threatens their physical well-being or the safety of others. While there is no typical length of stay, adults may use treatment services to the extent that 24-hour monitoring is necessary. Inpatient care features one-on-one consultations with a psychiatrist, goal setting, education, and aftercare. Throughout their treatment stays, inpatient clients also receive psychiatric monitoring.

Those who don’t qualify for inpatient treatment may attend brief outpatient sessions, which require a minimum of three days’ attendance per week. They’ll also have access to consultations with a psychiatrist, case management and crisis intervention services, life skills training, and aftercare.

In a supportive, structured setting, the hospital’s Youth Inpatient Program provides substance use disorder education, psychiatrist-led treatment, and group therapy for teens and children ages three to 12. As of 2016, 2.83 percent of adolescents ages 12 to 17 in the state of Missouri needed but did not receive treatment at a specialty facility for illicit drug use.

There is also an intensive family program designed specifically for teens with significant mood and behavioral changes. In this four- to five-week program, teens must attend a minimum of three days of weekly programming, held daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and parents one day per week. Dinner is included in programming.

DePaul Hospital’s behavioral health team consists of a medical doctor, a registered nurse, licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), and other qualified professionals. Indeed, 98.8 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Missouri have continuing education requirements for their staff. In their surveys, three reviewers collectively found the staff and therapists were caring, friendly, knowledgeable, and well-trained.

There is currently no information provided by the hospital regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however, the four individuals surveyed by to date provided high ratings for the facility's upkeep and its extracurricular offerings.

Facility's Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4.8/5

Three alumni shared positive treatment experiences with as of this writing. Together, they submitted ratings of at least four stars for nearly a dozen treatment aspects evaluated, including the staff’s level of training and experience, the treatment for co-occurring disorders, and the amount of family inclusion. The facility’s counseling options received slightly lower ratings of three and four stars by two former clients.

Though she found group therapy sessions here “helpful,” one alum wished there was more individual therapy, while another found the facility itself “to(o) small.”

The single anonymous loved one polled by to date did not provide any specific feedback or commentary, but gave nearly every aspect of the facility she evaluated - from its capacity to treat co-occurring disorders, to its holistic offerings, to its family participation - ratings of either three or four out of five stars.

Contrastingly, the two individuals to leave comments on Google at the time of this writing had distinctly negative experiences, both granting just one out of five stars.[1] One loved one reported patronizing treatment and unfair family and connectivity policies. I.G., the other reviewer, wrote, "If you have a loved one who is having troubles do not send them here."

WHAT STAFF SAY has yet to receive reviews from this facility’s staff. On Indeed, where the DePaul Hospital has an excellent average rating of 3.9 out of five stars based on 42 reports, many staff members considered the hospital an enjoyable place to work, though some found it understaffed, making them feel unsafe around violent clients.[2] “I learned that a hospital setting is very busy but I enjoyed working with my patients and my co-workers that were not lazy.”

SSM Health DePaul Hospital is one of the 77 (26.9%) treatment centers in the state to accept Medicare and one of the 185 (64.7%) that accepts Medicaid. Most commercial insurance plans are also accepted. The four individuals polled by to date expressed high satisfaction with the hospital's cost.

Therapists are well-trained and very friendly. Not enough individual therapy Group therapy is helpful, but not what's best for everyone. You may find more help with an individual therapist.
