ABOUT STANLEY STREET TREATMENT AND RESOURCES (SSTAR)
Founded in 1977 and located along the eastern shore of Mount Hope Bay in Fall River, Mass., Stanley Street Treatment and Resources (SSTAR) is a non-profit healthcare and social service agency that provides a wide variety of mental health and substance abuse treatment services to the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts. The facility treats men, women, and adolescents who require help working through their mental health and/or substance abuse issues. SSTAR also offers detox treatment as part of inpatient services, making it part of two percent of facilities in the state to offer the service.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
SSTAR offers several different types of services and programs including family intervention, primary healthcare, and both outpatient and inpatient treatment. According to the facility’s website, it has an open access center for people who need immediate help and going to the center doesn’t require an appointment.
The primary healthcare center provides primary healthcare, preventative medicine, education, and supportive services for all individuals. The center also has specialized services including the treatment of Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS, which includes HIV testing (offered by 40 percent of the state's facilities).
Inpatient services offer three separate programs: clinical support, dual diagnosis, and acute treatment. The clinical support services have a 30-bed, gender-specific unit open 24/7 for clients. The dual diagnosis services (DDS) provides short-term care and psychiatric support for clients who have co-occurring disorders. This makes SSTAR one of 204 (58.1 percent) of treatment facilities to treat clients with co-occurring conditions.
Lastly, acute treatment services are a 20-bed unit primarily for detoxification. Treatment modalities used include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), psychiatric evaluations, individual and group therapy, relapse prevention, and aftercare/discharge planning, and more.
Outpatient services provide a wide variety of substance abuse and mental health programs. They include ambulatory behavioral health services, a batterer’s intervention program, a driver alcohol education program, family interventions, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for addiction treatment, outpatient support groups, smoking cessation services, and a women’s center. Treatment modalities include group, individual and family therapy, case management, medication services and links to 12-step programs
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Department of Mental Health Retardation license all services and programs offered at SSTAR. The staff members are a mixture of licensed professionals including nurses, master’s level clinicians, physicians, and directors.
