ABOUT ST. CLOUD HOSPITAL RECOVERY PLUS

St. Cloud Hospital, located in St. Cloud, Minn., is a Catholic- affiliated hospital that, among other services, operates Recovery Plus, a substance misuse treatment center that provides both inpatient and outpatient treatment for people of all ages. Recovery Plus offers gender-specific residential programs, as well as a several specialty programs for eating disorders, dual diagnosis, relapse prevention, as well as postpartum women with children.

Founded by the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict in 1886, St. Cloud Hospital is part of the Centra Care group, a nonprofit organization that operates six hospitals as well as numerous nursing homes, clinics, and pharmacies throughout central Minnesota. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 42.4 percent of rehab facilities in Minnesota are operated by private nonprofit organizations.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The length of the residential program varies based on the individual needs of each client. The treatment the residential program is based on the 12-Steps and offers medical care, group therapy, and education about the nature of addiction. The facility also offers dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), moral recognition therapy (MRT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), integrated dual disorder therapy, and complementary therapy.

Outpatient services available at this facility include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and general OP programming. At each of these levels of care, clients participate in group therapy and are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings.

Recovery Plus is one of 151 rehab facilities in Minnesota (42.1 percent of all facilities in the state) to offer a program specially tailored for women and one of 61 (17.1 percent) to offer a program specifically tailored for pregnant or postpartum women. Other specialty treatment programs include various drug-specific programs and programs specifically geared toward older adults as well as clients with eating disorders, learning disorders, in relapse, or on the autism spectrum,

STAFF CREDENTIALS

St. Cloud staff includes licensed psychotherapists, counselors, and a nurse practitioner. Medical care professionals from the hospital are also available. The six individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience had mixed impressions that skewed positive:

Pictures published on St. Cloud's website show simple furnishings, shared bedrooms, and a communal patio. Recovery Plus is one of only eight rehab facilities in Minnesota (2.2 percent of all facilities in the state) to provide residential beds for clients' children. To date, the seven individuals polled on the matter generally appreciated the quality of living conditions.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the 10 alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, eight were mostly positive and two were negative. The five alumni polled on St. Cloud's offerings in a variety of treatment metrics gave above-average ratings to most metrics evaluated, including family participation, connectivity, and the likelihood they'd recommend the facility.

Alum J.S. wrote in a representative review: “They don't have much in the way of exercise, but the counselors really care and the classes are great." Alumni also praised the variety of programming and the fact that clients could bring their children to treatment with them. Despite most reviews being positive, one anonymous reviewer wrote: “Needs many improvements.” Additionally, more than one reviewer noted that the center was difficult to get to.

However, alumni repeatedly praised the center’s older adult program, and several reviewers indicated that although the center was somewhat lacking in luxuries and extracurricular activities, the treatment was very good nonetheless.

The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date both gave mostly positive reviews and indicated that they would recommend the program to others. In particular, the two reviewers gave high four- or five-star ratings for the facility's family participation, connectivity, treatment for co-occurring disorders, cleanliness of the facilities, and the number of counseling options.

However, they had differing opinions regarding the program's exercise and leisure options, affordability, holistic treatment, and overall effectiveness of treatment.

One anonymous loved one wrote: “Focus on family. Welcoming Small, but hard to get to. Good counselors." The other praised the center’s programs but added: “They didn't follow up after treatment.”

FINANCING

St. Cloud accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Additionally, St. Cloud offers discounts to those whose incomes are less than 250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. To date, the seven individuals polled by Rehabs.com offered mixed opinions concerning the facility's cost.

It was not a lux facility, but within reasonable rates & they did have a "older adult - 55 + " program.This made the experience more comfortable.

Children can attend the treatment with the parent/client. Location was not the best. It was a overall good experience and I learned a lot about the disease addiction
