ABOUT ST. FRANCIS ALCOHOL AND DRUG TREATMENT CENTER

The Saint Francis Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center is a self-contained facility with its own entrance and parking, located behind the St. Francis Medical Center building in Grand Island, Neb. The facility offers residential care and outpatient options for individuals 14 years or older who are struggling with substance abuse issues. It is one of the only three (2.2 percent) hospital-based centers in Nebraska to offer detoxification.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Each client's experience begins with a comprehensive evaluation to determine the necessary treatment. Services available on-site include medically supervised detoxification and short-term residential rehab (less than 30 days) beginning with an intensive treatment intervention and 24-hour supervision.

During residential care, clients participate in individual, group, and family counseling, as well as educational classes. At the end of intensive treatment, clients are transitioned into less intensive programs. Clients are also introduced to the principles and practices of 12-Step.

St. Francis offers several outpatient treatment options. The facility offers a partial hospitalization program (a minimum of eight hours/day of in-hospital programming), intensive outpatient programs (involving four hours or more of programming, four days per week), and customized outpatient treatment plans. Family needs are addressed with educational programs and support groups. In Nebraska, the facility is among the 20.8 percent of facilities to provides specialized programming for adolescents.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, the treatment team is comprised of licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselors. The facility has medical operations for other specialists, so medical personnel from other disciplines may be available.

To date, the nine individuals polled on the matter praised the the aptitude of the facility's staff.

Staff Experience and Training: 4.4/5

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

While few details on accommodations are available, the center’s hospital-based location lends itself to an environment that is clinical in nature. Nine Rehabs.com survey respondents to date shared highly positive feedback regarding the center's accommodations.

Facility Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4.9/5

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

For the most part, the four alumni reviews for this facility are favorable. One anonymous alum awarded their treatment four out of five stars overall, despite experiencing some discomfort with the presence of religion. “I would prefer a non-religious medical experience,” one anonymous alum wrote. Another anonymous alum, also a four-star reviewer, had a different perspective. “I liked my councilor. They work with your religious/spiritual preferences. Overall the treatment was a quality experience,” the alum wrote.

Other reviews, like the one submitted by J.B., were more enthusiastic with their praise. J.B. gave five stars for the effectiveness of lead counselors, respect shown to clients, and the facility's ability to resolve conflict. “My treatment experience was amazing. I found a counselor for aftercare that was a perfect fit for me,” they wrote.

Another alum, S.J.J., gave the facility mostly positive ratings, but wrote "I feel I would have benefited more with more one on one time with a professional counseled. Left on your own too much."
Reviews were generally less favorable on Google at the time of this writing, where five reviewers gave an average of 2.4 out of five stars.[1] The two written comments mention staff mistreatment.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The seven loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com registered some minor complaints, but most reviews were overwhelmingly positive and gave the facility and treatment effectiveness high rating, especially for the amount of family participation. Although offering a lower rating for the inclusion of counseling options, loved ones reported they'd be highly likely to recommend the facility.

Family Participation: 4.6/5
Likelihood to Recommend: 4.1/5
Counseling Options: 3.4/5

One anonymous reviewer noted that the wait time for an evaluation was lengthy, but appreciated the “many options for treatment.” This anonymous respondent also wrote, “Almost all of the staff here are in recovery themselves. They are much more understanding about the problems and experiences that clients have had.” In general, loved one reviews revealed satisfaction with the quality of care given. One Rehabs.com reviewer liked the “nice visiting policy” and wrote, “I was there only a few days but they seemed to be a good facility.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

The sole anonymous staff member to submit a survey to Rehabs.com to date stood firmly behind their employer’s services, issuing five stars for counseling options and family participation. This staffer commended the “excellent family counseling” and added, “Staff works well together in developing a treatment plan and coordinating counseling, group therapy, lectures and study times.”

FINANCING

As a hospital-based program, St. Francis works with most health insurance companies, as well as Medicaid. If finances are an issue, the hospital will work with patients to process Medicaid eligibility paperwork, set up payment plans, or find suitable financing from different sources. Nine Rehabs.com survey respondents at the time of this writing provided high ratings for the center's pricing.

Affordability: 4.1/5

Has a good long term reputaion around the state. Good programs. Works if the patient is ready to change. Seems to be a revolving door with some patients. Could use more staff to work one to one with patients and family. The place is getting old. I did some in treatment work with my son and some after care. We still do after care and attend 12 step recovery meetings. Recovery is a need based thing. If the person is not ready and just playing the game to avoid punishment there is not much the staff can do to bring recovery to the patient.

Staff works well together in developing a treatment plan and coordinating counseling, group therapy, lectures and study times. State funding/sliding scale fee available. Excellent family counseling as part of rehab. This facility has outpatient, intensive outpatient and residential treatment. It also provides evaluations and family counseling.

Almost all of the staff here are in recovery themselves. They are much more understanding about the problems and experiences that clients have had. It takes a long time to get in for an evaluation The have many options for treatment. Outpatient, extensive outpatient, and inpatient to name a few.

Overall the treatment was positive but I didn't intend to quit drinking alcohol upon entering the program. It is a branch of Catholic Health Initiatives and I would prefer a non-religious medical experience. After care was at the same facility and it lasted about 3-4 months
