ABOUT ST. LAWRENCE ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER

Located on the Canadian border in upstate New York, St. Lawrence Addiction Treatment Center offers inpatient treatment to adults struggling with substance use disorder. It's one of the 42 (five percent) of state-run substance abuse treatment facilities in New York, and serves the uninsured, underinsured, and working poor residents of New York's northernmost counties. The rehab also provides treatment for gambling addiction, which is offered by 24 percent of all treatment facilities in the state.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment is abstinence-based, and each client receives an individualized treatment plan, discharge plan, and relapse prevention plan. Evidence-based treatment methods include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). Group and individual counseling, recovery workshops and seminars, self-help meetings, and family counseling are also used. Individual and group counseling is provided for those receiving treatment for gambling addiction.

The two- to four-week long inpatient program involves 12 hours of treatment five days per week and eight hours on the weekend. There are daily group counseling sessions for women only that focus on self-esteem, self-acceptance, specific health care issues, trust, and assertiveness.

Treatment programs for both genders also make use of complementary therapies including meditation and journaling. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including Suboxone maintenance for clients battling opioid use disorder, is also offered.

Strengths: available counseling, one on one sessions and group, also varying counseling types for more than addiction, such as help with learning difficulties and/or mental health challenges. Weaknesses: some counselors and staff push religion, in varying ways and terms used for higher power, god etc to believe in, accept in, though not all counseling or staff were this way pushing religion. the facility really goes above and beyond to make you and your family, loved ones as comfortable, included, as possible, keep confidentiality, keep you and family, loved ones all informed from admission through out your stay, great counseling sessions one on one and some groups counseling, friendly helpful staff, exercise programing and day plans, possibly trips to exercise have outings though based on how well you are doing, behaving, earned privileges. rather affordable good treatment in varying ways a lot is to fit what else the person needs too not only help with addiction

Strengths: Everything is given to you in writing, some papers you need to sign, also you are verbally informed of all that same- including treatment planned for you, if you will get alcohol, substance abuse treatment along with any mental health problems you have will be treated too. There are counselors for the mental health aspects needing treatment along with addiction treatment counseling and many other program aspects you will have available, groups counseling type sessions as well as individual ones. there is nutritionists available to help you with specific needs as well an over all high quality nutritious meals planned. you have a plan set for your day of counseling, classes type help/info, your counseling needs and group ones for counseling. Not much free time as you are always busy in ways to help yourself getting better with the help of all others and all that's available at this facility. there are so many other strengths this facility has for substance abuse and/or mental health problems. family and/or friends are included in a lot with you and staff though family/friends are excluded from many parts too so privacy is kept. there is just so much i know and see as strengths of this facility, the staff, programs. Weaknesses: at times there may not be any or as much available space to allow someone in need into the programs there. only so many rooms/beds availbale for those in need of services/counseling etc from this facility. but this is a weakness that is understandable (a place can only do with what space, counselors etc they have and funds for) also understandable since this same weakness limits at facilities is same with many facilities, only so many spaces available for those in need. as hard as it was admitting having a problem/problems that needed help, the staff, counselors entire facility makes you as comfortable as they can and you do feel comfortable there, in treatment even when that is difficult, having group and one on one sessions counseling is great and helpful. Classes available some are part of your treatment plan. like self-help type classes, getting you to work on say any of the self-loathing, anger etc issues you have from your addiction, from mental health issues that are often made worse by addiction-journal writing is very much encouraged by counselors whether you share that or not is your choice, some of that sort may be required with your one on one counselor. Being able to have friends/family kept involved so much as they are, yet also privacy is maintained so much too, also that you are able to keep contact with friends/family, calls and visiting days/times. physical fitness is another-they make sure you are exercising in healthy manners alongw ith nutritious foods. not demanding certain exercises of you but encourage you to do exercise say even walking the grounds and/or parts of the treatment facility.
