ABOUT ST. MARY’S HEALTH SYSTEM

The behavioral health department of St. Mary’s Health Systems of Lewiston, Maine treats adults, adolescents, and children. The facility offers outpatient-based treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental conditions. Faculty does as much as possible to help. Meals are good. Not enough doctors to spend enough time with patients with mental issues. More questions towards recovery issues asked.

I was in there for anxiety, and recapturing depression, and thoughts of suicide, and med. Check. I can see locking things up for safety reasons, and theft. But what I don't agree is the way they search your belongings without your presence. I can see them dumping you things out on a desk in front of you, removing any sharp items, or no prescribe medications.. But I don't agree with them going through your personal, letters, and things that don't cause anyone harm, . I was there for thoughts of suicide. No to hide or seek shelter, but for help dealing with what was on my mind. I went on my own to get emotional help, and felt very violated with the way things were conducted. I like that hospital as far as care hose for injuries and treatment go but on the social side of things. They can use a little help. My option, sorry, but no thanks.

It's outdated and limited in many ways. It's feels more like a daycare for the mentally unstable than a treatment center.
