ABOUT ST. VINCENT CHARITY MEDICAL CENTER – ROSARY HALL
Founded in 1865, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is a general and teaching hospital based in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The medical center's Rosary Hall was founded in 1952 by a nurse who worked closely with a co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. The center offers inpatient medical detox and outpatient services, including medication-assisted therapy. Rosary Hall places emphasis on compassionate and continuous care for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Rosary Hall clients at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center undergo an initial evaluation of where they are in the addiction process, and staff tailor treatment plans to meet each individual's needs. The inpatient medical detox process incorporates ongoing assessment over a typical three-to-five-day stay.
Substance use disorder treatment at this facility is based on a 12-step, abstinence-based model. Following detox, clients can participate in a five-week intensive outpatient program, which meets up to four times a week. In addition to talk-therapy, medication-assisted programs include buprenorphine for opiate addictions and Campral for alcohol dependency. Staff assist clients in connecting with community-based support networks for ongoing and holistic care, and the Rosary Hall aftercare program offers a once-a-week group meeting for 12 weeks for clients who have completed a primary rehab program.
According to the Rosary Hall at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center website, treatment team members include two medical directors who maintain associations with Case Western Reserve medical school as well as several other treatment centers. Their certifications include methadone maintenance. Chemical dependency nurses, counselors, social workers, recovery coaches, case managers, nutritionists, and pastoral counselors also serve on staff. Continuing staff development is a priority.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
To date, Rehabs.com has received feedback for this facility from three former clients, whose perspectives were strongly aligned with each other. All three respondents indicated that they would recommend treatment at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center Rosary Hall, and awarded four or five stars each for both the staff's level of training and experience and the effectiveness of treatment. In their comments, reviewers praised the staff as friendly, available, respectful (one wrote that they were "not preaching"), and knowledgeable. Medical care and dual diagnosis treatment were also identified strengths.
They indicated, however, that the program was someone limited in scope and variety. A metric measuring holistic therapy offerings received just one or two stars from all reviewers, and family participation received mediocre ratings of two and three stars. One reviewer reported that aftercare was substandard, and another said treatment was too short, without enough opportunity for outdoor activity.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The four loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided overwhelmingly positive feedback. Most emphasized the friendliness of the staff — one anonymous reviewer praised “their patience, their knowledge, their understanding.” The reviewers awarded average ratings of 4.75 stars for staff experience, 4.5 stars for counseling options, and 4.25 stars for family participation. Data also revealed high satisfaction with co-occurring treatment and affordability. Like alumni, loved ones tended to give lower ratings for holistic options, averaging 3.5 stars.
Two reviewers represented policies, especially regarding contact with clients, as outdated or overly strict.
WHAT STAFF SAY
