Starlite Recovery Center Philosophy

Starlite Recovery Center offers help for everyone whose lives are impacted by addiction and alcoholism. Primary treatment is merely the initial step in the overall recovery process. Our goal of promoting an abstinent lifestyle, one that is lasting and productive, is predicated upon intervention and education which demonstrate to the addicted individual the path of success and how others achieved it. Starlite Recovery Center, located on 55 acres of beautiful Texas hill country, offers an unmatched natural environment in which to recover from the devastating effects of drug addiction and alcoholism. Innovative chemical dependency treatment has been the hallmark of Starlite Recovery Center for over 3 decades. Our professional staff of physicians, counselors, and nurses provide clients with an interdisciplinary team that effectively manages their individualized care. Starlite views chemical dependency as a primary disease, one which is progressive and potentially fatal. It may severely impair functioning in all major life areas. Starlite provides programs that deliver a comprehensive, individualized continuum of care for chemically dependent persons and/or their family members who have been affected by the diseases of alcoholism and/or drug addiction.

ABOUT STARLITE RECOVERY CENTER

Established in 1957, Starlite Recovery Center is located in Texas Hill Country, about two hours from Austin and San Antonio. The residential rehab facility emphasizes personalized treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Starlite’s offers medically monitored detox on-site, placing it among the just 8.7 percent (36) of 431 treatment facilities in Texas to offer this service, as well as outpatient-based programs.

Specialized programming is also offered for LGBT+ clients (a service available at 20 percent of Texas facilities), adolescents (at 26 percent nationally), young men, and clients seeking a Christian faith-based approach to recovery.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients undergo a pre-admission screening to determine an appropriate fit with Starlite Recovery Center, followed by nursing and physician exams and a psychiatric social assessment. Following detox, if necessary, a standard residential program is 30 days, while specialized tracks typically run 45 days, according to the facility’s website. Some treatment plans are available through a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP).

Treatment at Starlite incorporates 12-step principles and practices, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a modality available at 44.1 percent of Texas rehabs. Residents can also expect to participate in holistic therapeuties, such as equine therapy and meditation. Yoga, massage, and acupuncture are also offered.

Both the Starlite adolescent program, for girls and boys aged 13 to 17, and the Neoteric Program, serving males ages 18 to 26, comprise many of the same components as the standard adult residential care. The young adult male program prioritizes experiential treatment, involving activities such as organized sports, hiking, fishing, and kayaking, according to the facility’s website.

Clients in the LGBT+ track follow an affirming, integrative special curriculum and attend Lambda 12-step meetings. The Journey Christian program offers a non-denominational approach that combines evidence-based and faith-based counseling with Bible study and Celebrate Recovery 12-step meetings.

The facility also runs a two-day family program focused on education, counseling, and personal recovery skills. Aftercare services include setting up continuing outpatient treatment and a one-year follow-up.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Starlite Recovery Center treatment team includes a double board-certified psychiatrist/addictionologist, nurses, and licensed counselors. Some staff are in personal recovery, according to the facility’s website. This facility is among the 29 percent nationally to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

If you really need help in recovery DO NOT GO HERE !!!!!! The staff are all horrible ....I was told this was a dual diagnosis facility...I have bi polar 1 & was told I could get help with a qualified m.d. That was a bold faced line. I was there for a very deep.addiction to opiates. That quack 'dr.' took me off 7 m.g.per day of ativan, 6m.g. a day of risperdal 8 m.g. of seroquel a day us.20 hydrocodone & replaced it all with NOTHING Iit was truly awful. I could have died. The worst thing of all was that they were so cold & unfeeling. I went to u.t.s.w. medical after that (THE BEST !!!!!) & have been clean for good now. Do you /.your loved ones a favor : DON T GO.TO.STARLITE.RECOVERY!!@@! Truly awful

I went to this place to get help. Instead I was victimized by there night staff. The following day I spoke with there director of counseling. She told me the employee was being reprimanded by the ceo, but maybe it was a good thing that I was victimized. Her exact words. This place was disgusting and dirty. I had to be moved twice because of the nastiness of the place. There was no pool, and a gym that was old and outdated. You are not allowed to go into because of lack of staff. Tour this facility before you stay. Do not send a love one here to be victimized like I was.

This facility leaves a lot to be desired. Their advertisement does not match up with the actual program. Psychiatrist comes once a week to prescribe medication; individual counseling once a week; no personal trainer for the gym; yoga once a week; message therapy requires payment. During my 4 week stay I did equine therapy one time (there is only one horse for the group); ropes training twice. I signed up for the Young Mens Program but was not allowed to participate. As a 20 year old I was placed with older adults that I could not relate to.. Lack of activities which made stay boring. Some of the staff was very rude. They did not treat clients with respect. Excessive meetings without structure. Exaggerated pool size. Food was bland and not appetizing. Areas for smoking are too close to buildings which affects non smokers who have asthma. I have very good insurance and they kept trying to extend my staff. They seem to not understand that if clients are disrespected, bossed around and are subjected to their moods that no one will want to extend their stay.. I would not recommend this facility to anyone!

I believe that the facility should keep a closer eye on new patients. ... I think there should be a better evaluation process. However, I believe it's a wonderful facility, that not only helps it's patients get on the right path to sobriety but to maintain it.

The people are wonderful; most of the staff are in recovery. However, there was not enough diversity in treatment options.

Great family program. Close to a big recovery community and easy transition's to sober living houses in the area. The 12 step program was wonderful alongside how they bring in H&I meetings from local recovery communities. A downfall of the facility was its old buildings.

Excellent facility to get into recovery and maintain recovery. Extremely involved, around the clock care, staff ready and willing to help and trained to help especially during a crisis. I just did not like the no internet rule, but I understand it.

I have had three family members go there. It was beneficial for them at the time. It was their choice to lay down their program down. The treatment center provided good education and counseling. I am also a counselor and feel this is as a professional.

My insurance would not cover outpatient services; however, they did assist me in finding a half-way house to move into immediately upon discharge. I did not relapse. I highly recommend this facility and have referred several individuals and clients to Starlite. Starlite provided a life change, life saving experience for me. A doctor is regularly available, nursing staff is on hand and supportive, support staff is compassionate and kind, but professional and concerned. The counselors are enthusiastic about their role and take the time to address issues individually as they arise. I was stubborn at times and was not eager to comply completely at first, but my counselor and staff worked with me through the difficulties in the beginning and guided me through big groups, small groups and individual sessions to a new way of thinking. A chapel is available for spiritual needs, a work out room is on site as well as walking/running trails and beach volleyball court. Mediation/Relaxation was offered and every Saturday the facility held an "open meeting" where the public was invited for guest speakers. Outpatient is offered for those able to enroll after treatment and counselors are also active in recovery in the community of nearby Kerrville which offers numerous recovery meetings and houses. Amazing Experience.
