Surrounded by mountains and located about eight miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah in the town of Murray, SunDance Behavioral Resources provides outpatient services to children, teens, and adults. Surrounded by mountains, this private practice offers medication management as well as psychotherapy and psychiatry services to residents living in Salt Lake Valley.

According to the facility’s website, clients can determine whether or not outpatient care is right for them with just one consultation. The facility takes appointments during the day with some evening openings. Individuals undergo an initial evaluation with a counselor who will discuss possible courses for treatment. Clients may continue to see the same counselor or be referred to a specialist or medical doctor.

SunDance offers counseling to individuals of any age as well as to couples and families. Treatment is available for a wide range of mental health issues such as phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mood disorders. Clients can also seek help for gender and sexuality issues, anger management, domestic abuse, and addiction.

Clients are treated by a team of therapists and psychiatrists who specialize in treating various mental health disorders and age groups.

To date, one former SunDance client reported an overall positive experience and wrote that the program “Really helped me out.” Based on a five-point scale, this anonymous alum also gave four- and five-star ratings for counselors’ level of training, respect, and availability and gave solid five-star ratings for holistic offerings, connectivity, and cleanliness of the rehab center.

Reviews elsewhere online at the time of this writing are mixed. Many former clients complained about bad customer service. On Google, where 18 respondents gave an overall 2.7-star rating, representative reviewer Jennifer wrote: “After waiting 2 months for a response from them, I never got a call from this place.”[1]

Similar issues with communication were expressed by Melanie who also wrote to Google: “I will never return to this office. Had this been a suicidal client calling… the patient would have reached out appropriately and then would have been turned away. Dangerous for those who really need help.”

Many respondents also had negative things to share about staff who spoke to them over the phone. “She was one of the rudest people I’ve ever had the displeasure of speaking with, abrupt responses, snarky remarks, condescending tone…” Jessica told Google. This same reviewer went on to describe the counselor she met, writing: “I did genuinely enjoy her and her desire to understand. She made me feel ‘safe’ and was easy to talk to.” Regardless, this alum felt the facility deserved only one out of five stars.

Google user Cherri iterated similar feelings about the counselors but gave a five-star rating and wrote: “The therapist I see listens… They put you at ease, and treat you like… well, like we all should be treated.”

Contradictory to accusations of poor customer service, an anonymous alum reported a positive experience and wrote to “The office staff is amazing and has gone the extra mile for me many a time.”[2] Two additional one-star reviews reflected Google commentary.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY has not received feedback from any loved ones of former clients at the time of this writing, but a parent who gave just one out of five stars wrote to Google: “My autistic son was denied therapy… She had him on speaker phone telling me she couldn’t treat him because of his autism. Now how do you think this possibly helped his depression in any way?”

SunDance accepts all major insurance for mental health and offers reduced rates for those who choose self-pay.
