Surrounded by mountains and located about eight miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah in the town of Murray, SunDance Behavioral Resources provides outpatient (OP) services to children, teens, and adults. This private practice offers medication management as well as psychotherapy and psychiatry services. In Utah, SunDance is among the 28.5 percent of facilities to provide specialized programming for adolescents.

According to the facility’s website, clients can determine whether or not outpatient-based care is appropriate after a consultation. The facility takes appointments during the day with some evening openings. Individuals undergo an initial evaluation with a counselor who will discuss possible courses for treatment. After the initial assessment, clients may continue to see the same counselor or be referred to a specialist or medical doctor, if necessary.

SunDance offers counseling to individuals of any age as well as to couples and families. Treatment is available for a wide range of mental health issues such as phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mood disorders. Clients can also seek help for gender and sexuality issues, anger management, domestic abuse, and addiction.

According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, SunDance is one of 36 percent of facilities nationwide to offer treatment for clients who have experienced trauma. Alum feedback collected by indicated the length of outpatient care may be between 30 to 60 days.

Clients are treated by a team of therapists and psychiatrists who specialize in treating various mental health disorders and age groups.

To date, the one former SunDance client polled by reported an overall positive experience and wrote that the program “Really helped me out.” The anonymous alum also rated the facility four and five out of five stars for counselors’ level of training, respect, and availability, as well as for the facility's holistic offerings and cleanliness.

On third-party sites to date, feedback was extremely polarized, with most reviews rating the facility either one or five out of five stars. On Google, 26 reviewers to date rated the facility an average 2.8 out of five stars.[1] On, three reviewers to date rated it one, one, and five out of five stars.[2] On Yelp, three reviewers to date rated it five, one, and five out of five stars.[3]

Reviewers were generally divided over the quality of treatment and communications they received from staff. Alum Devin on Google, representing positive feedback, wrote: "I have never had a problem with the staff. I treat them with kindness and they've returned it."

Yet alum Zach on Google, representing critical feedback, wrote: "They can't seem to be timely with appointments. The doctors have made numerous typographical mistakes where I have had to go in multiple times to get them fixed. The receptionists simply don't care about anything other than chit- chatting amongst themselves."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY has not received feedback from any loved ones of former clients at the time of this writing, but a parent who rated SunDance just one out of five stars wrote to Google: “My autistic son was denied therapy… She had him on speaker phone telling me she couldn’t treat him because of his autism. Now how do you think this possibly helped his depression in any way?”

SunDance accepts all major insurance for mental health and offers fee-for-service rates for those who choose self-pay.
