Teen Challenge Maine Philosophy

Teen Challenge Maine was established in 2007 to reach, rescue and restore young men and at-risk youth from the grip of drug and alcohol addiction by the power of Jesus Christ. Using Biblical principles as a guide for healthy and sober living, the long-term residential rehab teaches young men how to cease addictive and behaviors and become productive members of society. Located on a scenic 180 acre campus with an impressive view of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, Teen Challenge Maine also includes a working farm operated by the residents, an activity which plays an essential part in the treatment methodology overall.

Areas of Specialization

  • Aftercare Support
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

  • Holistic Therapy
Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.

Twelve years of drug addiction drove Jacqueline Strothoff to participate in every rehabilitation effort presented to her as she desperately struggled to overcome her addiction. Those years were devastating as she was committed several times to psychiatric hospitals and incarcerated for criminal activities. During one of those stays in a psychiatric hospital in 1974, Jacqui experienced a life-changing encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. Upon her release, she entered New Life For Girls, a one year Christian residential discipleship program in Pennsylvania. From there, she enrolled in a ministerial training program at Rev. David Wilkerson’s Twin Oaks Leadership Academy in Texas, where she met her husband, Bob. They spent the next several years working in Teen Challenge centers across the country and then settled in Springfield, Missouri where Jacqui earned a degree in social work from Southwest Missouri State College. Jacqui has ably served the Lord in a variety of capacities in churches and ministries. Her life and testimony has impacted thousands of hurting lives. Today that impact continues as she serves Teen Challenge New England and New Jersey in a senior leadership role. Jacqui is the proud mother of two adult children and the ecstatic grandmother of two adorable grandchildren.

With more than 200 locations nationwide, including Connecticut, Los Angeles, and Ohio, Teen Challenge USA is a faith-based network of rehab facilities. Established in 2007, the Maine location provides residential treatment to adult men ages 18 and older. Detoxification services are not offered, however the facility can provide referrals to area detox centers if necessary.

All clients must commit to a minimum 15 months in treatment to be admitted to the program. Teen Challenge's primary purpose is to teach clients how to apply Biblical principles to their everyday life. Daily devotions, Bible study, chapel service, and regular church attendance are the major components of treatment, along with job skills training and life coaching. Clients without a high school diploma are given the opportunity to acquire a GED.

In addition to their daily curriculum, clients are assigned chores and must become involved in activities and community service programs outside of the facility.

Upon completion of the program, clients may remain on campus and participate in a six-month apprenticeship program within the Teen Challenge ministry.

According to the facility's website, staff includes an admissions coordinator, a program supervisor, and an academic coordinator.
