This rehabilitation center helped strengthen my relationship with God. I learned things in class that I still use on a daily basis. I hated not being able to smoke cigarettes, but once you get to a certain point in your recovery, they let you go outside and smoke. I hadn't smoked a cigarette in 12 days. If they had a firm no smoking rule, I may have tossed out another bad habit of mine. It really stinks to be told you can't smoke even though you are of age and chose to be there, but a firm rule could save even more lives! I have friends that have gone to rehabs where the patients are allowed to leave the building and come back at their own discretion. Some say it helped mentally to know they could leave if they wanted, others say it was a perfect way to hang with old friends and still get the meds they needed. I personally think that having to stay indoors at Springwood is 100% effective in making the recovery process feel rewarding. Then staff at Srpingwood were exceptionally pleasant and educated, but I felt a little bit like a number. This excludes the staff members who work with patients in class and on the 12 steps. It would have been beneficial to my thought process if they hadn't treated me like I was just another addict that would be walking out of their doors in a month.
