Areas of Specialization

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a highly specific, research-validated form of therapy that can help people overcome traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. With EMDR, a trained practitioner uses bilateral stimulation, eye movement and touch to stimulate parts of the brain as a patient recounts certain experiences and memories as a way to more thoroughly process uncomfortable, painful feelings.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
The focus of cognitive behavioral therapy (also called CBT) is helping people to understand the thoughts and emotions that underlie their addiction with the goal of learning new, healthier and more productive ways to understand and express themselves.

ABOUT THE BRIDGE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Located in Lincoln, Neb., The Bridge Behavioral Health provides treatment for individuals struggling from substance misuse, trauma, and mental health disorders. Founded over 30 years ago, the facility offers a residential treatment program for men 19 and older, as well as outpatient treatment options for both adult men and women. Additionally, The Bridge Behavioral Health is one of only 11 (8.1 percent) of non-hospital residential treatment facilities to offer medically monitored detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

An evaluation by a licensed counselor is required to be considered for treatment. Typically, there is a waiting list, but the Bridge can offer outpatient support and daily meetings until a bed becomes available. If necessary, the facility offers a voluntary Medical Withdrawal Unit, where clients may stay for an average of three to five days in a medically-supervised environment during withdrawal.

The residential treatment program can last anywhere from 30 days to 10 months. It is a highly structured program that addresses the underlying issues that lead to addiction. Addressing the unique concerns of men, The Bridge's residential programming is designed to help clients cope with personal trauma, learn life skills, and take care of neglected medical needs through individual counseling, group sessions, and educational programs. In Nebraska, the Bridge is among the 33.6 of facilities to offer specialized programming for men.

The outpatient program offers both group and one-on-one counseling sessions. Additionally, treatment staff members work with community programs and groups to facilitate individualized care plans. A comprehensive aftercare plan is created for each client prior to discharge. There is also an alumni program that meets regularly for events and is available for anyone who has completed any program at The Bridge.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Bridge's treatment team includes a registered nurse and a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. The facility is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), a distinction held by only 33.6 percent of rehabs in Nebraska, according to a 2016 SAMHSA survey.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There are 68 beds at The Bridge Behavioral Health's residential facility. Though there is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, the single individual surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility five out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities and all related categories, including cleanliness, meals and nutrition, and exercise and leisure options.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave The Bridge a positive review, awarding the facility mostly five out of five stars across 15 different evaluated metrics, including holistic offerings, connectivity, visitor policies, and level of staff support. “The staff are very well educated and not afraid to keep it real,” the anonymous reviewer wrote.

On the facility's Facebook page, which The Bridge staff members have the ability to edit, the facility received an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars based on 22 reviews.[1] Most reviews focused on the effectiveness of treatment. One alum, Kaleb, wrote in a representative review: “This place saved my life forever grateful and blessed thank you.”

Reviews on Google, however, were slightly less positive, with an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars based on seven reviews.[2] While positive reviews tended to agree with alumni on Facebook, negative commentary criticized the staff's experience and training.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date offered a starkly different opinion of the facility, specifically the detox facility. Offering one-star ratings for both treatment effectiveness and accommodations, the friend of a client wrote: "The staff in detox is abysmal. The conditions are unsanitary and scary. They offer no help other than water and cheese sandwiches."

FINANCING

According to The Bridge's website, depending on the program, the facility accepts some insurances and offers its services on a sliding scale fee. The facility states the following on its website: "As a nonprofit, our mission is to help people even if they can’t pay."

CONCLUSION

Earlier this year, Nebraska almost discontinued funding The Bridge due to its practice of locking individuals dropped off by police for detoxification. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, The Bridge agreed to moderate its discharge policy in order to meet licensing regulations. Currently, police estimate that 3,600 individuals are dropped off at the detox center per year, serving as an alternative to jail.

The staff in detox is abysmal. The conditions are unsanitary and scary. They offer no help other than water and cheese sandwiches. When you try to pick your friend up they come up with (unposted) rules which make it very difficult for someone who lives on the other side of town.
