ABOUT THE BROOK - KMI

Located in Louisville, Ky., The Brook, formerly known as Ten Broeck, offers chemical dependency and psychiatric treatment to people of all ages. Based in a colonial mansion, this treatment center is one of Kentucky's 56 (15.4 percent) inpatient facilities. The facility also offers outpatient programs as well, and the center is amongst the 5.2 percent of non-hospital facilities in the state to offer detoxification services on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, before treatment, a staff member conducts an assessment on potential clients to determine the most appropriate level of care. The individual’s mental, physical, and spiritual needs are assessed. The treatment center’s staff creates an individualized plan for every client, and they analyze each person’s progress to update treatment goals.

The Brook offers inpatient care, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and psychiatric partial hospitalization program (PHP) to adults and adolescents. Specialized outpatient programs are also available for seniors. In addition, the facility offers a Kenton County School-Based intensive outpatient program, and men can enroll in transitional sober housing.

Treatment for chemical dependency consists of 12-step programming, group meetings, family counseling, individual counseling, and discharge planning. Before finishing treatment, the center’s staff works with every client to set goals and determine the client’s aftercare needs.

The Brook's treatment team includes medical directors, psychiatrists, therapists, and registered nurses. The Brook is accredited by the Joint Commission. The 16 individuals polled on the matter by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing offered extremely high ratings for the facility's staff.

Many alumni reported confidence in the staff. “Many of their staff are former or recovering addicts, so they are experienced with addiction. This is a good thing,” an anonymous alum wrote. Eight of these individuals awarded above-average ratings for the facility's counseling and reported they'd highly recommend the facility to others.

Staff are knowledgeable and caring. A lot of extracurricular activities and the ability to attend outside meetings. Provide a family and bonding atmosphere. Lack of communication among staff, and kinks in schedule. Great experience with Landmark Recovery of Louisville. Had phenomenal progress. Facility can be more thorough during the admissions process.

The brook had a lot of amazing counselors, though the psychiatrist I had prescribed me medicine I was not pleased with, I have heard they changed their policies on prescribing medications until 6 months after detox. I hope this is true. Your mind is in no state to handle mind altering medications after detoxing from hard drugs.

I didn't like being thrown in with heroin addicts. Sharing the same space. They could not administer the pain meds I was taking before entry. I have not relapsed.

The biggest problem in treatment is motivation of the person. The aftercare is the major component to success. The out patient after care was a key portion to the success of treatment. The weakness of the facility really were more related to the length of time for inpatient.

My son was there for IOP rehab but met someone there and it was a toxic friendship. I wish there was a way to discourage two addicts hanging out with one another. But I'm sure there's not. A brother and/or sisterhood type meetings were great. Not enough drug testing for outpatient treatment.
