About the Facility

Reviewed by Our Contributors

Located in Clark, New Jersey, a short drive south of Newark, The Counseling Center At Clark offers outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) services for individuals in Union County and nearby struggling with substance abuse and mental health disorders. It is one of 214 facilities in New Jersey with a specialized program for treating co-occurring disorders. The facility has been awarded the Gold Seal for Quality by the Joint Commission and is licensed by the NJ Dept. Mental Health, Office of Alcohol & Mental Health Services.

The Counseling center offers two levels of treatment. It is part of the 65.4% of New jersey facilities to boast an intensive outpatient program. The IOP is the more rigorous of the two and eligibility is based on a clinical assessment. It combines evidence-based treatment (including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) with elements of the 12 Step principles. The standard outpatient program offers individual and group therapy sessions.

According to the facility's blog it also runs occasional community education events, including a recent event on Naxolone and overdose treatment where they distributed free Narcan kits to attendees.

Little information is available on the facility's website regarding the staff. It does say that therapy sessions are lead by "licensed and qualified Addiction Counselors, psychologists, and other professional treatment providers" and notes that group therapy sessions are kept small, indicating a low staff to patient ratio.

To date has not received any feedback from alumni regarding the The Counseling Center At Clark, NJ. Reviews on third party sites are also scarce. A single Google reviewer gave the facility a perfect five out of five star rating with no comment.[1] On The Counseling Center's facebook page, which it may have the ability to manage, three reviewers left similar five star reviews.[2] A fourth individual, Paul, however left a negative review, writing "We did 4 hours worth of intake. They didn't listen to a word I said and screwed up my medications."

Information regarding cost of treatment is not available on the facility's website or elsewhere. Most private insurance plans are accepted, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care, Cigna, and many more
