ABOUT THE FRIENDSHIP HOUSE

Located in Bethlehem, N.H., The Friendship House is a service of the state's Division of Alcohol and Other Drug Services, providing a full continuum of treatment programs for individuals struggling with substance abuse. Friendship House provides a short-term residential program, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and transitional housing, as well as specialized program for DUI offenders.

If necessary, the facility also provides stabilization services, which may include medically-supervised detoxification. It is one of only five residential facilities in New Hampshire to offer non-hospital detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To determine an appropriate level of care, clients first participate in an initial substance abuse assessment. If a client requires supervision and a highly-structured schedule of treatment is acquire and maintain sobriety, the individual may be referred to the facility’s residential program, which typically lasts approximately 28 days.

According to the facility's website, the residential program, which is referred to as the Clinically Managed High Intensity Residential Treatment (CMHIRT), focuses on the "onset, progression and neurochemistry of Addiction." During residential treatment, clients participate in a highly-structured schedule of individual, group, and family counseling sessions. In addition, clients may attend educational sessions on relapse prevention, improving coping skills, developing peer-based support networks, and trigger avoidance.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) follows the same programming approach as residential treatment, and IOP may be utilized as a “step-down” aftercare service for discharged residential clients. To provide additional support and extended care, clients may also enroll into the Transitional Living Program (TLP). The goal of the program is to provide support as the resident prepares for self-sufficiency, and the average length of stay is 90 days or less.

Friendship Home also facilitates an Impaired Driver Care Management Program, which satisfies the state's requirements for relicensure. The program involves a comprehensive assessment to determine appropriate treatment, education, and/or recovery support services. In New Hampshire, the facility is among the 20.9 percent of facilities to provide specialized programming for criminal justice clients.
