Located in Oxford, Miss., Haven House is a 48-bed residential facility that specializes in treating adults seeking treatment for chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. Along with a primary residential program, which requires a minimum client commitment of 30 days, Haven House also provides transitional housing, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and aftercare services. Haven House does not offer medical detoxification services on-site, but Haven House does provide withdrawal management services.

Before beginning treatment at Haven House, prospective clients participate in an initial pre-admission assessment over the phone. An in-person assessment may also be administered upon intake to identify individual client needs, which forms the basis of treatment programs. Haven House requires a minimum 30-day stay, making it one of Mississippi’s 22 long-term, non-hospital residential treatment programs.

Haven House blends evidence-based treatments, 12-step immersion, and holistic treatment methods to equip clients with the tools necessary to achieve a successful recovery. The 12-step program is used in 73 percentage of U.S. treatment facilities.

During the primary residential program, clients adhere to a structured, supervised schedule of treatment programming. The principles and practices of the 12-Step program are major components of Haven House’s treatment approach. Meetings are held twice daily on-site, and clients may be required to study fellowship literature (Big Book) and perform associated “step-work.” Clients may also attend process groups, individual counseling sessions, educational classes on addiction, and workshops on relapse prevention and coping skills.

Haven House integrates a range of holistic and alternative treatment approaches. During the primary residential program, clients participate in musical and artistic expression classes, yoga sessions, guided meditation, and nature walks. To address co-occurring mental health disorders, Haven House may facilitate psychiatric consultations and ongoing medication management.

Upon completion of the residential program, Haven House operates a transitional living facility for program alumni. Residents may stay in transitional housing for up to six months. For continuing care, Haven House also offers an intensive outpatient program, which may involve process groups and relapse prevention-focused educational classes. The facility provides one year of recovery support for alumni residing in the area.

Haven House’s treatment staff includes licensed rehabilitation counselors and clinical social workers. It is one of the 73 facilities certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health.

Haven House can accommodate up to 48 men and women at a time. Haven House is a large three-story building with large meeting rooms, offices, and recreational areas. The facility is surrounded by open areas and is thickly forested, which makes it a secluded place to work on recovery. The three alumni polled by on the matters gave the facility three out of five stars for accommodations and amenities and two, three, and four stars respectively for meals & nutrition.

At the time of this writing, five alumni provided feedback about the Haven House. Four of the reviews were positive. Alumni provided neutral feedback about the available counseling options offered, though alumni identified many strengths of the facility, including guest speakers, one-on-one counseling, and the cleanliness of the facility. Alumni generally indicated that the treatment was very affordable and worth the cost.

Affordability: 4.8/5
Facility Cleanliness and Upkeep: 4/5
Counseling Options: 3.5/5

Although two reviewers expressed that the coed nature of Haven House was a weakness, one anonymous alum wrote:“Haven house saved my life, and even though it is a state run facility God works through the people there for His purpose.”

On the facility’s Google page, there is an overall rating of 4.5 out of five stars based on eight total reviews to date.[1] Reviewers highlighted the care and patience demonstrated by staff. Reviewer K.K., who gave five stars, called Haven House a home away from home. She wrote, “Haven House saved many many lives, including mine.” Another reviewer, S.F., supported that viewpoint. He gave five stars and added: “These people have been there, understand, and aren't in it for the buck!”

On Facebook, where the facility can manage its page, Haven House has a 4.9 out of five stars from 41 reviews.[2] Many alumni credited the program with their long-term sobriety, noting how they have been clean for up to 13 years after being discharged. Alumni also noted how the staff are “loving caring people.”

On, Kassidy gave Haven House a one out of five-star review and provided criticism about how she saw the manager treat the staff.[3] Kassidy wrote: “I will not say that the place is bad, but the staff manager treats the staff and the people there seeking help horrible!!!”

On Indeed, Haven House has a 3.6 out of five star rating from 26 reviews to date.[4] While some of the feedback regarding the management as negative, the feedback about the interactions with other staff members and clients was very positive. One former employee summed it as: “Working there was challenging, exciting, rewarding and so much more.”

Haven House accepts most major insurance plans and provides a sliding fee scale for uninsured clients.

Haven House is looking to expand its service offerings. It is looking for qualified therapists so that it can increase its capacity. The facility also hosts events regularly, and you can find information about upcoming events on the facility’s Facebook page.

Absolutely the worst treatment center I've ever been to. Idk how all of these positive reviews have gone up. Not only are the "groups" completely ineffective, but all you do is sit there and listen to other clients life stories. There is literally no knowledge to be found here. Most of the people here are court ordered. I was extremely disappointed by the medical staff if that's what you want to call them. If you are a heroin addict DO NOT GO HERE. Meth? Cool. Crack? Great. But they will NOT take care of you if you are coming down off opiates.
